I waited in line at the DAN! to ask the Jane El-Dahr/Karyn Seroussi panel to

confirm or deny rumors that many children are going off the gfcf diet

successfully post-chelation. I didn't make it to the microphone before they cut

off questions, but cornered a few speakers during breaks later in the weekend.

Official word: from Amy Holmes and virtually every other speaker including Andy

Wakefield (my husband commented independently about the consensus view) was:

continue the gfcf diet if it is working for you.

Unofficial word:

*Karyn Seroussi has not heard any stories of kids returning to long-term gluten

and casein diets successfully.

*Jane El-Dahr found that her elder child has been feeding her autistic,

partially chelated, formerly-gfcf son gluten and casein, and so far, so good.

Since my youngest child (71/2, about 55 lbs., and doing chelation all of 2001)

reacted strongly to a small amount of casein a couple of months ago, I don't

intend to try gluten and casein for my boys again until I have reason to believe

the metals are out and the enzymes have had a chance to recover. I have eaten

some myself, though, and my reactions are far less noticeable than even a year

ago. I had the last of my amalgams removed 15 months ago, and have been

chelating all of this year, too. I don't know if it is significant that most of

my mercury exposure came in mid-childhood and thereafter, while most of my

boys' was probably prenatal and in early childhood.

I tell you something that happened to me at the DAN Conference, after being

on the diet for 2 months, I ate all bread that I could as soon as I got

there (been deprived had been a nightmare) so the second night I got so

sick, all I wanted to do is roll in floor holding my stomach, I was afraid

will miss the next session. After that all I ate was salad and I was fine

after a wile.

That tells you how fast your body gets used to no wheat.
