Hi everyone,

I've just got back from the USA after spending a few days with

and his family. I had the great privilege yesterday of having

lunch with and his wife, AND Dr Ponseti and Mrs Ponseti!! What an

honour!

Anyway, Mrs Ponseti was saying she would really like to have a film of

the children running in the Ponseti races a while back. I don't know

much about the event she is referring to, but I do remember seeing

some posts on here and someone posted some photos I think. Does anyone

have a film which could be sent to Mrs Ponseti?

Thank you, and hope everyone is keeping well,

Stella

Hi again

Sorry I've brought this message up to the top again as there haven't

been any replies - it seems to have got caught up with a different

thread somehow. Hopefully someone can help with this request for Mrs

Ponseti! :)

Thanks

I never knew something like this happened! I would also like to see

some pics (or be directed to where they are). My husband was just

saying today that all our Ponseti treated babies should get

together! I bet this was a blast.

And on that note...

On Friday, my older boys did a thing called Run for the Arts at

school. It raises $ for the school to bring in Young Audiences

programs like music and dance, arts, etc. I used to Run for the Arts

when I was a kid... it's been a thing here for ages.

So my little girl, my three year old daughter with Clubfoot joined

her brothers. She RAN the whole thing. She probably ran 6 1/4 mile

laps. She never walked. Even when the bigger kids were walking, she

ran. The whole way!!

I am very proud of her!

Clubfoot races... now that's a great thing to see.

Stella,

It's so nice that you are looking into this for her.

We were there for the first of these events in fall 2004.

I have a couple of still pictures .. but no video. A local Iowa TV

station was there to film it for the evening news, and a segment ran

that night. I wonder if the station could provide a copy? M.

was there .. maybe she remembers the station and might have a

suggestion? I think from the hospital was involved in

organizing it; she was the one who gave all the kids their " 1st

annual Ponseti Clubfoot Races " T shirts. Of course the media/pr

people at the hospital might know something about it as well.

Hope you get some more info on it...

Stella,

I don't know of any video anywhere, but there are some pictures out there.

has pictures from the first races, 2004, at:

http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jennifertrevillian/album?.dir=2c6f & .src=ph & store= & \

prodid= & .done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jennifertrevillian/my_photos

has pictures from the second races, held in 2005. There is a

link to them from the " Links " section on the group's homepage--it

doesn't seem to be working right now though.

Hi Stella,

I was wondering if Mrs Ponseti was thinking of the Ponseti toddle that Naomi

arranges in Manchester. It's just that when we were up there this week she

mentioned it to me and this post made me think of that.

By the way feeling really jealous of you having been able to go to Iowa and

meet the Mr and Mrs Ponseti. Did you go alone or take with you?

Wow Kori- that's great! I bet your heart was swelled up so big! I

can't wait for the time when Lucas starts doing stuff like that.

It's amazing how others can take stuff like that for granted. I'm

very thankful for every little thing Lucas accomplishes.

Hi Kathy

Nice to hear from you. How's Ethan doing?

No, Mrs Ponseti meant the races in Iowa - she was there herself and

it would be so nice if someone had a copy of some video footage for

her.

Are you going to this years Ponseti toddle? I think the last time i

spoke to Naomi, she said it would be around 10th July....did she

tell you that date too?

I went on my own to Iowa, to spend a few days with and

hia family. It was great to see the business, and meet everyone

involved. He has some great new products coming out soon, including

a detachable bar which is a brilliant design, better than any others

I've seen. I've volunteered for to try it out! :))

We met Dr Ponseti and his wife for lunch last Thursday and I'm still

getting over how wonderfully kind they were. Dr Ponseti remembered

from last year when we went to visit him...I was just

gobsmacked that he took time out to have lunch with us and he was so

friendly and his wife just an amazing woman. She is writing Dr

Ponseti's biography...I'd like to get my hands on a copy of that

when its finished!

We must meet up soon...Brighton isn't that far away, and with the

weather getting warmer (except for the SNOW! today), it would be

lovely to see you and Ethan again.

Take care

Stella,

I have some snapshots of the clubfoot races from October, but no

video. I'm sure someone videotaped it, but I really don't recall who

might have.

I have some camera shots at the Ponseti races and a wonderful picture

of Dr. Ponseti and his wife laughing which I think I gave to him with

some other pictures. If you want I can send them to you.

Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for your replies. I think that a collection of

photos sounds like the best way forward, unless anyone can remember

the name of the film/TV company which had some footage. Perhaps I'll

put together a CD with all the photos on it and post to Mrs Ponseti

instead. So if anyone can send me some pics, I'd be grateful, and of

course i will let Mrs Ponseti know that they came from the parents

on here! I tried to open up the link on the previous posting, but

unfortunately it didn;t work.

Thank you!

Stella,

Look in the links section of the group's homepage, there's a link to

the photos there under 2005 symposium and clubfoot races. If you

still can't get them I can send them to you directly in a separate

email.

Hello,

You all have perked my curiosity about this annual clubfoot race and the

symposium in Iowa! Being a newbie I don't know anything about it but the

pictures looked like fun! When does it occur and what all does it involve?

The reason I ask is that Mallory is to return to see Dr. Ponseti in October and

I thought maybe it would be fun to coordinate her appointment around the

same time!

Thanks!

,

The clubfoot races are something they just started in 2004 I think,

but every year Dr. Ponseti and colleagues host a symposium for

doctors around the country (and world) to come in for a two day

course on the method. It's really a great experience, I had the

fortunate opportunity to attend last year. At the symposium they

invite several families at different stages of treatment to come in

for demonstrations. At the end of the second day, they bring in a

whole " parade " of kids at various stages of brace wear (including

those done with brace wear, one of the " kids " last year was a 25 year

old med school student), with their parents and Dr. P checks them all

out and discusses their continued course of treatment and explains to

the visiting doctors. Then afterwards everyone is invited to go to

the U of I gym for the clubfoot races. Last year they also provided

lunch for the families. It's a nice opportunity for some of the

parents to meet as well as a lot of fun for the kids. It's not a

huge " hyped-up " thing. I think there were probably about 25 kids who

participated in all last year, and 2 adults in their 40's. They

break it up into age groups and the little ones only run about 30

feet, and there are no " winners " , it's all just for fun.

If you are interested in participating I would mention it to Joyce so

she can let Dr. P know that you and Mallory would like to do it.
