Hi There! My daughter was diagnosed at around 5 1/2 months. We did craniosacral therapy twice weekly for about one month and had her re-measured right before her helmet fitting. She did have a bit more 'fullness' on her flat spot, but it was so slight that we decided to do both the helmet and CST. We were worried that if we just did CST and didn't see the results that we wanted, we would miss a big window of opportunity with the helmet. She was already 6 months and we knew her head growth rate would start to slow way down. We are so glad we made the decision to do both! The helmet has made such a difference and we believe adding CST once weekly for the first few months helped things along and kept things 'balanced' for her.~Kandice---- Original Message ----From: Plagiocephaly To: Plagiocephaly Subject: Anyone tried cranial sacral therapy for their baby?

My LO (6 months) just got diagnosed with plagiocephaly. I want to try cranial sacral therapy before helmet therapy. Has anyone has tried CS Therapy? If so, how successful was it?

There is one person on the list that did not do a helmet, but did CST and chiro instead (forgive me but I can't rememer the name). I believe that this person was unable to get a doctor to write a prescription. However, the change in the head was enough that a helmet wasn't needed. Most of us that have done CST have done it in conjunction with a helmet.

Personally, I would suggest that if you go with CST first, you should take weekly pictures to make sure that you are seeing changes. At 6 months old, you also want too make sure that you can get the band going quickly if you don't see changes. My own belief is that CST will help in cases where the skull is "stuck," but may not help as much in other cases. I also believe that the opposite is true of repositioning. If the skull is stuck, then you will see little change with the repo.

While I do believe in alternative treatments, I see them as complementary in nature - meaning that I believe in using them alongside the other and more traditional treatments. I have often said that if I knew what I knew now, I would have done CST and chiro first with starting with when I noticed her head at 2.5 months. However, I would have gotten some measurements to compare with and also taken weekly pictures. If I hadn't seen enough change by 5 to 6 months, then I would have initiated helmet therapy. The only reason that I say that is that there is a time limit for optimal change with a band. You can get good changes even starting as late as 9 or 10 months, but it will take longer. Once you get to over a year, you risk not getting full correction or needing a really long time in the band to do so.

Since you are starting at 6 months, you have less time to play around with. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks for the advice. We start CS Therapy this week while letting letting the paperwork go to the ins. company to see if they will approve the STAR band. If noticeable improvements are made then we may not need the latter but we'll see what the ins. says.
