Talking about it being easier to get a job after weight loss, I have a good

example. There was a job in my area that I interviewed for. I have some

experience in the field, and was competeing against a co-worker, who had no

experience. (The job was not at our previous place of employment) The job

required going out and teaching hospitals and physicians about requirements

for registries and how to use the software, etc. My co-worker is young,

blond, blue eyes, gorgeous, and thin. Guess who got the job! I had decided

that I was not interested in the job, so I didn't care, but I was not very

surprised about their decision. I had a feeling that this was the type they

were looking for.

I think I will be much more marketable after I lose weight.

Pam: I can TOTALLY empathize with you there! I actually did get an internal

training position at my former employment... but some of the higher ups

seemed quite surprised that I had such 'charisma' or 'presentation' once I

was in the role... Duh! I have tons of experience and I LOVE to teach! It

shows. :) Once I was in the position, I definately didn't think I got the

compensation or recognition that I deserved for what I had accomplished...

them's the breaks, I guess. I'm sure my 'fat' had something to do with it.

I had such a terrible experience with the corporate world that I decided to

just QUIT when I was preggo with my second.

Now, after losing weight and being home for 3 years... I'm ready to strike

out again! I want to start with a part-time position so I can be there for

the kids after school and in the evenings... I'm very excited about it!!! I

don't think it will be so easy in this economy, etc. and I don't expect

miracles in terms of pay, etc. -- but I definately will know what to ask for

and not stop for anything less. :):)

I think it's so DISGUSTING how prejudices come into play, especially with the

higher or more visible positions. I think my personality did compensate

quite a bit but still couldn't totally overcome the cards stacked against me.

I'm sure there are obese/morbidly obese people (even women! LOL) in

high-paying, prominent positions. And, I'm sure they deserve to be there and

perhaps had to fight to finally obtain that status. BUT, I think there are a

hell of a lot of obese people out there trying to break the barrier and

unable to because of society's predjudices and the fact that many people

considered these justifiable.

all the best,

Pam,

I know what you mean. I've been unemployed since my lay-off in June. I'm

in the IT field, project management, business analysis, etc., and have found

that unless you have what's considered a " professional image " you're

fighting a very uphill battle. I'm hoping to have the surgery late January

or early February, (presuming I can overcome some insurance obstacles). I

know my chances of finding a good job will be substantially increased once I

start loosing weight.

Pam,

I agree about it being easier to get a job. I was

lucky that I was hired basically over the phone. My

present employer worked with my sister in another

town. We bothe work for retail. He was her boss.

When he was tranfered to my town. I applied for a

job. He was not there but someone who worked for the

company, and new my sister told him I had applied.

Anyway I was hired because of her. He even told me

that not to long ago. I asked him if I had proven

myself since than he said yes. I know he thinks I am

a good employee, but I have wondered if he had not

known my sister if I would have been hired. Everyone

he has hired since I have been there (7 1/2 years) has

been shall we say alot smaller than me. There are

only 5 or 6 other employees in my store that are

overweight. Those were already in place before he

came. I have also overheard him complain about those

overweight people when he did not know I was there.

He was not complaining about there job performance

just that they were fat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!That has really

upset me and is one of the reasons I want to lose the

weight. I am tired of people thinking that if you are

overweight than you are not as good as someone

thinner. OK I'll get off my soap box! LOL
