's heels took several weeks to a full month to fully seat in the

shoes...and the left one still is a bit far up, but it is the " tight heel cord "

foot. (Still up in the air about a tenotomy on that one...) Her right one was

pretty far down and well seated in 2-3 weeks, I would say. (No tenotomy needed

on that one.) They were both so far up at first that I could put a stick

through the heel from one hole to another and not touch her foot. It will

happen for Keira - don't worry! Enjoy your s!

shoe question

Hello,

We received our shoes a few days ago. I had noticed in the past

that people had mentioned that it takes a while for the heel to sit

completely down in the shoe. I have noticed that Keira's heels do not sit

all the way down and wondered how long it may take before they do? Also how

far up the heels in the shoes when you first used them for your

children?

Thanks very much!

Hi Halley, we have had the s for about 5 weeks or so and at first,

Hayden's heels were slightly up and forward. It took about two weeks before

they sat flat and further back into the heel. I could get maybe my pinky under

his heel at first. I noticed that Hayden's feet would swell up a little when I

first removed the shoes, so the best suggestion I can give is to get the shoe

as snug as you can and then half an hour later, tighten the center strap which

is the critical one. Tightening the other straps can cut off the circulation.

I had to get extra holes punched in the toe strap to make it tighter.

If it makes you feel good, I have not had any trouble with rubbing spots,

pressure sores, etc. He has a slight red mark where the center strap sits and

on his heel, but otherwise he has been totally fine. He has not objected once

at me putting them on, except when I tried to make the center strap too tight

right off the bat.

Good luck!

Hi Carol & ,

Thanks for your replies! I feel much better after hearing that this is

normal. I too can put my pinky finger under Keira's heel in her shoe. I am

hoping after a few weeks, this will improve as you said. Thanks for the info

and encouragement!

I do like the shoes. I feel a bit awkward putting them on at this

point but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Bye for now!

HI Halley

I know other people have replied to your post and you

now seem to be feeling happier but I always think it's

nice to hear things are all ok several times so I

wanted to add our experiences

Ethan went into the s at 7 months after

tenotomy number 2. His left foot was stiffer than his

right and when he first got them you could easily fit

your whole finger under his heel. It took around 5-6

weeks (I think this is right may have been a bit

longer? hard to actually remamber now!) for his heel

to come down and now at 12 months old his feet are

just great. Ethan also didn't have full dorsiflexion

correction when he came out of his tenotomy cast but

when we returned to the hospital 4 weeks later he had

full correction which he continues to maintain.

I used to worry about the tightness of the s

but was determined to get them as tight as I could.

His straps are always thinner now where they buckle

because I pull on them so much and on both his first

and this pair I quite quickly moved down at least 2

holes as the suede stretched out. I think keeping the

middle strap really tight has helped to ensure his

dorsiflexion is good. I cut the toes off a coule of

pairs of socks due to worry that they were too tight

but all seems fine.

Ethan also seems to suffer (like several other babies

on this site) from the really cold purply legs at

times. I emailed our doctor several times about this

but she doesn't seem too worried and recently I've

found leaving the top strap on snug but not tight

seems to have helped a bit here. I'm hoping like other

parent seem to have mentioned that it's nothing to be

overly worried about and it will disappear with time

although I'm sure I'll still mention it when we see

our doctor again in 3 weeks!

If you have any worries or questions about the

s, ask away. I'm still coming up with

questions of my own 5 months downthe line!
