Guest guest
>>> My son has begun the gfcf diet. He has 20 days in it. I don´t see any changes. He stopped having diarrhea and bad odor but now he is having soft stools again. He is taking Serenaid. And we have seen self injurious behaviours he had never had before starting this diet. Will he improve after more weeks? Thank you very much. Carmen. Hi Carmen, 20 days is about the 3 week mark. So I gues you have been 100% casein free for that long. If not, keep track of when you actually think it was 100% casein free, not just sort of casein free. I would like " stopped having diarrhea and bad odor " would be a positive improvement right there. Maybe you are not seeing the leaps and bounds some people note (although definitely lots of people see the slow progression as well) because of a possible yeast or bacteria problem. With resuming of soft stools that may be the bad bugs readjusting (I'm guessing here). When I tried SerenAid, it worked much better than I thought, but I found it took a good 3 capsules to do the job (with casein food). At least 2 capsules. But if you are removing casein on purpose and using one, that should be a good safeguard. The self-injurious behaviors sound like some withdrawal or possible die-off (if we are back at the bug problem). If your son is more gluten sensitive than casein sensitive (or soy or corn sensitive) you may not see better results until those are removed. For gluten, allow 3 months of being gluten-free. Could you provide some more information on his diet, any gut problems he has had, and any other supplements? That might help with more ideas. Feel free to write me off-list if you don't want to tie it up working through this. .
