Guest guest
ummm.... can someone please drop Alvarez Queen of Botox failures in a carbonite freezing chamber? OMG... I think you need to take Hayden back to her without warning on her CF day and show all her patients his feet and proclaim her ineptness. Do it weekly till she kicks you out. At minimum, set her in her place and tell her she stinks at correcting clubfeet and if she doesn't stop her crap that you'll start writing letters to every newspaper and TV station slamming her for abusing children. Good God this woman sure has some nerve... And she calls herself a doctor?? Guest guest
This is the second time she has felt it necessary to lie to someone about what happened to us. First off, why bother saying anything beyond " I don't know " when someone asks? Second, don't talk about me and my child to other people, whether they are friendly with me or not. Third, is her ego so bruised that we left her precious study that she finds it necessary to lie to people? I am considering making a complaint to the College of Physicians and Surgeons or at the very least the hospital administration. Guest guest
Hello! If I were you, I would definately make a complaint. It sounds as if the Doctor is violating HIPPA. HIPPA rules and regulations are set forth to protect your privacy and medical information. Health care professionals of all levels are not to discuss any personal/private information with anybody but the patient, in some cases even with written consent. As a health care professional, you are bound by law to follow HIPPA very strictly and can lose your licence for violating the policy. Just think, if this doctor is saying this about you, what is she saying about others. How sad! Glad to hear your found a different doc! Best of luck to you! Guest guest
I second this - it is a definite HIPPA violation and cause for discipline and/or dismissal along with loss of license. I've seen it happen to two nurses so they really aren't kidding. HIPPA is FEDERAL LAW and she has stepped over that line each time she discusses your case with anyone other than you. Guest guest
Kori, You sound as mad as I was when I spoke with this morning about this!!!! It is unbelievable that she is acutally lying to parents to cover up her inept treatment!! I think that is gonna call and then write directly to the hospital regarding this and the poor treatment that Hayden received under 'the Queen's' care in general (love that name you coined btw lol). But seriously, this doc has no ethics whatsoever, you remember that she was willing to schedule Hayden for surgery rather than refer to Pirani who she trained under!! Plus ALL of Hayden's treatment records from Dr. Pirani ( ie. that it took only ONE cast to fix his left foot and THREE to fix his right as she messed it up that bad with her 18 casts!) were forwarded to her and she STILL has the nerve to say that to another parent, who knows if she even read the transcripts! At the end of the day though really dosen't think that talking to or writing her would do any good (I wonder why!!) so she is gonna go over her head so to speak. It is really sad that this is kind of crappy treatment (on so many levels) is going on at the Children's Hospital in our city! It is such a great care facility for kids in so many other areas but NOT for our club footed babies unfortunately & Grace > >Talked to a mom who I was friendly with when going to Children's today > >and she told me that Dr. Alvarez had told her we left " because we went > >to get surgery elsewhere " . Guest guest
I agree with HIPPA as she violated your's and Hayden's right to privacy. I would write a letter to the editor or your opinion page of every local newspaper until they publish it on the off chance that someone would read it and know how terrible she is! If I were a parent, and someone discussed someone else's child with me, I would be furious as she could do the same with my child! 11/19/04 wrote: Talked to a mom who I was friendly with when going to Children's today and she told me that Dr. Alvarez had told her we left " because we went to get surgery elsewhere " . Guest guest
What about a complaint to the medical board, as well? She has a license to practice medicine, after all. I would be very angry if she had done that to me. How sad that she is still trying to treat club foot babies. Guest guest
This is what I am thinking - that a direct complaint to the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons would have better results, but it depends on what kind of can of worms I really want to open. A complaint to the College is considered VERY serious here. Based on what I can tell from the website (which incidentally was much clearer than the actual hospital site for information - couldn't even find administration info), there are three areas you can complain about: Medical Care Ethics, Conduct and Communication Concerns of an Intimate or Sexual Nature After reading the descriptions, my complaint could fit into either or both of the first two categories. Here's the link if anyone wants to take a look: https://www.cpsbc.ca/cps/patient_resources/complaints I'd really appreciate everyone's guidance on this. Thanks! I'm just so angry that she would say anything at all. All she had to say was " nope don't know... " and end of subject. When I replied with a horrified " no we did NOT go for surgery " to my friend, she was genuinely surprised. We discussed other issues about this doctor too. She told me she has one more visit and then she'd moving to Ontario so she will be done with Dr. Alvarez. Carol Shelton wrote: What about a complaint to the medical board, as well? Guest guest
Personally, I think your complaint fits in both of the first two categories and should address both. She gave incompetent and unproven medical care and then discussed your case with other patients, besides being untruthful. The " can of worms " was opened by her when she chose to do these things, in my opinion, not be you. You are just stuck in the bad position of deciding how to respond. I have a license to practice clinical social work in Texas and we have a board which governs our license. It is very appropriate for clients/patients of social workers to make a complaint if the treatment they receive violates the code of professional ethics. Can you get a copy of the professional code of ethics for physicians in Canada? I would have better advice if you were in the US. Maybe there is someone more familiar with Canada's medical things who can help you. I personally would be crusading for myself, my child and the other babies she is continuing to treat. But I am quite the crusader. LOL That is where the social worker in me came from, so to speak. All the best to you in your journey to figure all this out. What a mess she has dumped at your feet! Guest guest
well, if you do this it sure will be a can of worms. Your friend will have to be involved in regards to her breach of conduct and your letter will have to detail why you feel her treatment and research is (in my words, not necessarily yours) abusive. Your letter will have to address every concern in great detail because they're going to copy it to her for her to respond to and she'll be able to outtalk you medically and make it believable. It absolutely will be a can 'o worms you may not be able to control if your information/complaints aren't as accurate as possible. Anything you say about her methods not working and Ponseti's being so much better is going to have to be referenced with medical journals, published articles and studies and perhaps even Dr. Pirani's support. You could simply complain about her talking to another patient about you... but she'll get a slap on the wrist (if that) and have to apologize to you and the university will issue a nice memo to all their staff about privacy (according to my interpretation of the website you sent). End of story. Hardly worth it if that's all you're going to complain about (IMO). If you want to stop her though, you may have to get as many of her past patients as possible together and file the formal complaint about the research she's doing and why it should be stopped. They can stop research on monkeys and rats... but babies are ok to screw with with toxic injections that do no good? WRONG!!!! She's got to KNOW that her botox treatment doesn't work and that she's not able to correct CF with it. It seems like she's pushing so hard for the *research* to pan out and it isn't... and ego and vanity have taken over any heart she once had for helping CF babies. ANY sane person would have seen that it's not working after training with Pirani who I am sure instructed her properly and told her to expect Ponseti like results (3-7w casting, tenotomy if needed and then to FAB). If she's not getting THESE results... yet continuing to pursue this botox thing she's off her rocker. IMO Botox should only be considered if the Ponseti Method doesn't work (rare, rare, rare!!!). That's the only reason I can see for it's use in the first place and the ONLY practical use for it if it does end up doing it's job. THAT would be worth researching but one would have to be proficient at the Method in the first place to be able to study it's use properly. But that would take too long I'm sure... since it'd be few and far between patients where she could actually try it. Maybe that's it? Maybe the Ponseti Method doesn't provide her with enough patients to continue her research so she purposely messes it up? Oh, evil thought... but I think she's an evil woman too. Why on earth is this friend of yours going back to her at all? Is her child being treated for clubfoot? If so, how's that going for her?
