New type of boots and bars?

Hi i'm forwarding this on from the talipiesuk forum as I wondered if anyone else

had heard of these boots and what they were like.

We're currently in the s and wouldn't change from them but I wondered

if these boots were any cheaper for parents wanting to get away from Markells

but wondering about the cost of s.

The Nuffield hospital in Oxford are now begining to use these as they

have been able to get hold of them (eventually).

Hi Kathy,

we are from Germany and we have these boots and bar. It is

called " ALFA-Flex-Brace " . They are definitely NOT cheaper than any

of the other boots and bars. The bar alone costs about 1000 Euros,

one pair of boots costs about 240 Euros (I guess 1 Euro is about 1

Dollar at the moment).

The nice thing is, that you can disconnect the boots from the bar,

which makes it easier to put them on. Or if you have got an older

child that has to wear them during daytime, it's easy to put them

into the child-seat of the grocery-cart or into the highchair.

There were some problems with the boots because they caused pressure

sores in some cases (I think like the Markells do), but they tried

to improve the design with a better heel-area.

I know Dr. Dobbs was working with the orthotist who designed these in

Germany, and he really liked the quick release feature. I think they

also have a dial to set the external rotation that can be " locked " , so

the doc can set it and not have the parents mess with the degrees. He

told me that they were having some problems with them rubbing and

causing sores. But this was a while back so hopefully they've been

able to work on the design a bit more.

with the right tools you can mess with the setting all you want...

We have the older bar-model, there it is very easy, but that is also

a good thing, because when Pia is very active with the brace the

setting can change because of the movement... I guess, nobody's

perfect!
