Guest guest
Jen, just wanted to let you know Karter, DOB 7-30-04, is still in the brace 16hr/day, per Dr. Ponseti. We have an appt. on Wen and was hoping we could go to 12 -14 hours. Karter has been walking very well since Dec. and was hoping at our Dec. appt that he would reduce hours, but no luck. Tabitha Brittanie 6 years Karter almost 20 months blcf still in brace 16 hours wrote: My husband took Addie to see Dr. Dobbs 3/21. He was told to continue with 16 hours, not to reduce at this time. My husband also overheard Dobbs say the exact same thing to two or three other patients while he was there. Do you know why he is having some kids stay in the brace for longer? Addie has been walking great for several months, and he always says that her feet look great. I don't understand our " extended sentence " . I don't feel comfortable reducing with out his " go ahead " . So maybe I just need to vent my frustration. It is also frustrating when I can't be there for the appointments myself, and have to send my husband. My husband dosn't bring back all the info that I need! We have Addie in the brace 12h at night and daycare puts her in for another 4 h during the day. (we slack and just do 12 hours on the weekends) I just feel so bad for her having to crawl around at school while all the other kids are running and jumping. She drags her left foot slightly when she walks, but you can tell it is improving. I feel like more phyisical activity would be better for her to grow out of her weakness on the one side. Addie also started using the potty this week (Sat. she peed on the potty 3x- WHOO-HOO!) I think it would make potty training easier at day care if she could sit and do it by herself with out having to be lifted up to the potty by her teachers. How the heck did you get 12-14 hours for Sammy??? Thanks in advance for putting up with all my venting! Jen Ava 1-18-02 Addie 8-2-04 (Dobbs Brace still 16h!!) I get 12-14 by putting them on at 8pm, and taking off at 9 or 10... or later some days. No extra hours during the day for naps or otherwise. 8pm-8am is 12 hours. That's when we head off to school for the older kids, so that's one more hour in the car and then another at home makes for 14. Kori
Guest guest
He always says " so how many hours are you doing? " And I said the truth, which is 12-14 hours. He says, " good, just keep doing what you are doing " . He thinks Sammy's foot looks great as well, he doesn't have any issues with limping or weakness so I don't know if that could be part of it. My personal opinion is to talk to him yourself. Send him an email mattdobbs @ earthlink.net (minus the spaces). Just tell him your concerns about her needing to be out of the brace more especially with potty training. I don't know if he is just not reducing unless people specifically ask about it or if they just do it on their own or what. This way you get to ask your questions, and he can tell you if he has a reason for wanting to keep Addie in the brace longer hours or if he is just being conservative since you guys have not pursued reducing the hours yourself. Hope this helps, > > My husband took Addie to see Dr. Dobbs 3/21. He was told to continue > with 16 hours, not to reduce at this time. Guest guest
I decided to email him on your advice instead of just sitting here ranting and raving! I had a different email address for him. I will use yours if this one dosn't go through. The one I have is: dobbsm @msnotes . wustl .edu I am guessing it is the one he uses at Children's? Maybe I will just go ahead and forward to other adress too. I want to make sure he gets it! haha Thanks again, Jen > > > > My husband took Addie to see Dr. Dobbs 3/21. Guest guest
Jen, The msnotes address is good too - I think he tries to reserve that one for " work " and the earthlink one for patients, but I know he gets messages in both all the time. Although he gives the msnotes one to patients who are participating in the study I think. He'll get it either way, I use both! > > > > > > My husband took Addie to see Dr. Dobbs 3/21. Guest guest
Dobbs emailed me back, Addie is reduced to 12h! Whoo-hoo! Thanks for prodding me to get in touch with him. I am so excited.
