My insurance company wrote Dr. R (copy to me) that they needed a history and

physical from him or PCP and recorded weights for last 2 years. Is there a

certain form we have to fill out for the H & P?

Pam,

That's a good question! I'm about to get a flu shot next week and

never thought about it! I guess it's better to get the shot, than

get

the flu, right??

Your PCP will need to do this. There is a very detailed sample of

one

on the website, but most likely your PCP will have one that he is

familiar with. Just make sure that he includes and highlites exactly

what your insurance comp[any wants to see. You need the full

physocal

for your packet as well as your medical records anyway.

Hope that helps.

Thanks ....so, I guees what I want to know is how long it takes to get

your letter back from Dr. R. I sent it in last Friday and still haven't

heard anything yet. Maybe I am just being impatient.

The online form doesn't have anything to do with approval for the

surgery - it is simply for his information and also for insurance

company approval. In a few days you should receive a copy of a

letter I believe in Word format for you to forward to your insurance

company for their approval. Dr. R's approval comes after you

complete all the things that have to be in the packet - patient

letter, family support letter, contacts, etc., etc.

Trude. Wanna bet? I'm the least patient person on the planet, and if I

could wait around for your response, I could prove it. . . But I don't have

the patience to wait for you!!!!!!!!!PJ

a,

I wouldn't say that is being impatient, I'd be wondering too. Have you called

and bugged them? (I'll probably get yelled at for that)

I would. But then there aint nobody as impatient as Trudy.

Hi everyone....

I am new to the site and still in the information-gathering stage. I am very

interested in Dr. Rutledge's procedure as an alternative to the open surgery

which is performed in my area. My husband and I are considering changing our

health insurance in order to give me more options, as the HMO in which we

are currently enrolled will probably not pay for the " out of area "

procedure. They will, however, cover the local physician, and it appears

that I meet criteria. If we change to Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield - which

covers New York State Government Employees, I think there would be much less

restriction involved. However, in reading the Patient Manual, I noted that

those who have had previous surgeries MAY NOT be considered appropriate for

the mini gastric bypass procedure. I have had an appendectomy at age 9

(1958), gallbladder removal in 1984, and a hysterectomy in 1993. I suffered

no complications from any of these surgeries and recovered in record time

from all of them. Would this history automatically make me ineligible? Has

anyone out there had a similar history and been considered appropriate? What

determines whether or not a person with this medical history is a potential

candidate for the MGB procedure? What medical records would I need to

provide?

Thanks.

Dear Alice,

Check with the Doc but the patient manual on his website says that those

particular surgeries _may_ not rule out MGB.

Carol, I wrote to Dr. Buckner this morning regarding Coralie. I also

included a note regarding Angie. Thank you for thinking of this. I told

Dr. Buckner that the Foundation appreciated all she has done for us and that

we would continue to support her research.

hugs

<< time for all of us but I was just thinking of this.

Should or has someone Emailed Dr. Buckner on Angie?

I think she should know and would probably want to know also.

Thanks Sweetie for your input.

I was thinking of doing that too. Going down from 40mgs to 35 mgs instead of 30.

Going to stay on 40 mgs till all the pain is gone just in case.

Love ya.....

Carol, I would stay on the pred ( 40 mg ) until all signs of the flare are

gone. They try and fool you.LOL Then you are right back up to 40mg again.

Be patient, I know it it hard. I'm right there with you. uGH

Please take it slow.....

Hi Carol, May I add my 2 cents here too.

Don always stayed on the higher does of Prednison till the pain went away !!!!! In your case maybe you need to do the same, plus

when you cut back go only 5 mg. every 2 weeks till you get down to 10 mg. then 1 mg

maybe every week if you only been on it for a couple of weeks. It is much better to do it slow so you wont get a flare back right away. Sending you a lot of Prayers and LOVE !!!

DeeDee,

I'm so sorry that your daughter is having such a rough time and that

they backed out of the whipple. Unfortunately, all major surgeries have

the possiblility of death. That's why it's considered major surgery. I

wish I was there and able to give her a hug, so could you give her one

for me (if it's allowed with the isolation, if not, give her a phantom

hug)?On occassion, my doctors have started to feed me when my amylase

and lipase levels were raised, but not by very much. Now days it doesn't

matter as I no longer have elevated amylase and lipase levels. Some

doctors feel that if the patient can at least keep some food down, at

least keeping them on liquids or soft diet is more beneficial than

otherwise. However, if the food seems to make her worse, tell the doctor

right away and demand that she be taken off all food and liquids. (I

know you probably already know this, but I worry about everyone on this

board. I'm a worrywort). Keep us posted on how she's doing.

There is no way to acurately answer this question unless you can tell

what type of dwarfism the young man may be carrying. There are many,

many. Even if you only include the fairly common types, there are

about 6-8 and each of them has different genetic components and

different transmission rates. If his mom was an achondroplastic dwarf,

the most common type, the gene for it is dominant and so he may or may

not carry a gene to give it to his own children.
