Guest guest
Hi, I just spoke to the family counselor at my son's ABA pre-school. She feels that with the progress my son's made, he won't need to be there next year. She further feels that his attention span is the only thing that would currently indicate a need for special ed, and added that with the way he's progressing that may well not be an issue by next September. She went down the list, saying that behavior, speech, physical and cognitive abilities are not issues anymore. Therefore she feels there's a good chance will be ready for a regular kindergarten class. There's no way to properly express my feelings.. thank you all so much. We went on to discuss how easy it will be in a regular school setting for to get foods off the diet. She suggested that maybe someone assigned to be one on one with him during cafeteria and play-time would work. I think it would, because he's keeping to the diet on his own; he just needs a hand/reminder when another kid offers to swap sandwiches, asks if he wants some of their candy etc.. Here's where it gets tough. She said that without a doctor's note the school board will never go for that. Now my son's current pediatrician was consulted when we started the diet, and said she knew nothing about it. I know another pediatrician from my Synagogue, but when I spoke to him about the diet he expressed great doubts about it as well. Who can blame them, when there's hardly been any research done? We're in Woodstock, NY; an hour south of Albany and two hours north of NYC. Can anyone recommend doctors even roughly in our vicinity that we might start approaching? I've read many posts about problems with our kids going into school and keeping to the diet, but didn't pay as close attention to the details as I'm bound to now. Last I tried, the archives are not real friendly to get stuff out of... maybe I don't know the right way to use them?
