Guest guest
I got the free lunch brochure home from my son's school district. I was struck by the reference to Meal Services for children with disabilities, so I researched this further. I am in NY and called Albany. The rep there told me that I was correct in interpretting this to mean that all schools receiving fed funds must provide your child with meals appropriate to the gfcf diet at no cost above regular school lunch. This also means that if you qualify for the free or reduced price lunch program you are entitled to obtain this and still be able to do gfcf. The references in both the local districts brochure and the email I got from Albany were garbled, so I went hunting. Your regulatory references are 7CFR210.10(g)(1) This describes the requirement to serve special diets to students needing them. Then 7 CFR 15b broadly describes handicapping conditions. This section is titled Nondiscrimination on the basis of handicap in programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance. I hope this helps someone who might need it. I know getting my son fed around the school schedule is a hassle. I might force this issue when he's older and I need to go to work full time. If you are entitled to free or reduced price lunch go for it your childs diet must be accomodated.
