Guest guest
Hi all, Quick question for those of you with older RSS kids and/or older non- RSS kids... We have been giving Lupron Depot for several years & Aromasin (aromatase inhibitor) for quite some time as well. He is almost 12. He started adrenarche just before his 4th birthday, but we didn't know he had RSS until just over 2 years ago, and doctors here didn't know why he was having all these problems. Dr. H said that giving an aromatase inhibitor and Lupron does not stop the symptoms of adrenarche such as underarm odor, acne, pubic hair, etc, but should stop the bone age from advancing. Like I said, started with the underarm odor many years ago, but recently it has gotten much worse. Despite wearing deodorant & showering daily, to put it quite bluntly, reeks. He started middle school this week & I can barely stand to be around him by the time he gets home from school. It is very hot here in S. Florida, & I don't think the school bus he rides is air conditioned. So what I want to know is if this is a RSS thing or normal for any pre-adolescent kid close to puberty (since both my other kids are younger). Deodorant isn't cutting it, and has sensory issues, so he gags at the smell of colognes & perfumes. Can anybody recommend something else to keep him smelling like a rose - lol? Kim C. Guest guest
Kim, I think this is one thing you can't blame on RSS. I think it's a teenage boy smell. I used to teach 3rd through 8th grades and by the time the kids were in 8th grade (mostly boys in every class), the room would have that smell. Ugh. It was just awful. The boys didn't seem to mind, but I sure did! My friend and I used to call it that " manly man smell. " If I had that class right after gym, there was no hope but to open the windows and try not to breathe too deeply. If you are concerned about being ostracized socially, perhaps you could buy those disposable washcloths they make now? They are already moistened, so he can just keep them in his backpack and go into a stall in the boys' room and " wash up. " Max used to have a problem like this, but as he has gotten older, it has gotten better. I don't know if it's the surge in hormones or what. I'm so glad it is better for him. I hope it gets better for in time, too. By the way, how in the world can FLORIDA not have air conditioned buses? Those kids must be quite uncomfortable. Guest guest
Jodi, So you mean I get to look forward to this stink with too? Oh joy! It does seem ridiculous that the buses wouldn't be air conditioned down here. I know the buses for special education students are air conditioned. is eligible to ride one of those buses, but he doesn't want to. He says it is so hot, all the window are open on the bus, and he basically sits with his head near he open window. Therefore, I am assuming there is no air conditioner. I think I'm going to call the transportation department tomorrow & find out. Kim C. Guest guest
We live in Orlando and some of the buses are air conditioned. I need to ask Jed and see if his bus this year is.... My friends son's bus is.. The problem in middle school is that the kids like to open the window's even if there is A/C... Guest guest
I do know that there is a percription that keeps your from sweating. I believe it lasts for about a week beause it plugs up your pores. I'm sorry I don't know what the actual name of it is. ~ > Hi all, > > Quick question for those of you with older RSS kids and/or older non- > RSS kids... Guest guest
Kim - is using an anti-perspirant/deodorant or just a deodorant. With the heat being so high there, he undoubtedly needs an anti-perspirant and deodorant. The only other hint I would give is one I learned from our neighbor with a 5th grade son. She packs an extra t-shirt in his backpack each day. After lunch and recess, he changes his tshirt.... The 5th grade teacher joked with me that she has to keep all the classroom windows open after lunch, because of the horrendous smell after these kids have been running around at recess.... > Hi all, > > Quick question for those of you with older RSS kids and/or older non- > RSS kids...
