Guest guest
It does get easier. We've been on the diet for almost 2 years and it is second nature now. and the improvements are soooo worth it. no more constipation- thats a big one to me. I used to feel so bad for my son. He would cry because it hurt so much to go. keep up the good work. good things are coming your way!!! karen w
Guest guest
Jane, It does get easier. The first 2 or 3 weeks are the worst. You feel you are starving your child and end up gaining 10 pounds youself by eating the leftovers. We've been gfcf for 4 mos now and it is almost like second nature. I felt like I was faced with ingredients from another planet for awhile. Hang in there and drink lots of wine. Just kidding. Guest guest
Hi...we went through this with Dallas too. What type laundry detergent are you using? It turned out that our soap wasn't gluten free and he was getting a fix by chewing his clothes. Just for future info...some of the other places Dallas found gluten were cardboard video boxes (he chewed these to pieces) and sucking on my hair (my shampoo at that time wasn't gluten free). I think you are actually seeing EXCELLENT signs...he obviously needs to be on the diet, so you are really on the right track. > Hello all, > My son Jake (age 4) has been on the diet completely now for 11 days. > I guess I just need a little reassurance that this will get > easier. Guest guest
Jane - KEEP IT UP! I know it is hard and sometimes you feel like why should I have to take this on when I am dealing with so many other really difficult things right now... but... It will get easier. I have been at it now since March 2000 and have stumbled many times along the way, but it has gotten easier. At first all my son would eat was GFCF pretzels and GFCF waffles. Eventually he tried more things. He started eating rice and then would eat gfcf hotdogs and then we made him gfcf chicken nuggets and those were a success. Occassionally he will even eat veggies... but they are not a favorite. It is hard, but I have to tell you, I went to my son's typical pre- school the other day and saw what was in these other kids lunches.... yuck! My son was the only kid with home made bread, fresh fruit and raisins - the other kids were eating stuff that was neon colored and full of preservatives and sugar and sodium.... I felt proud that my kid was eating better now than he ever had and than most of his class mates. I think this diet will teach my boy good eating habits, since we tend to do things that are fresh for him. Anyway, hang in there keep up the good work the next few weeks you will probably see some behavioral regression, but take that as a sign that things are working and ride it out. I don't think it is for any particular reason either. The OT gave him his own " chewie " it is just a piece of rubber tubing probably used for OT/PT but I would imagine you could buy something like it at the store. He slips it around his neck and chews on the knot all the time. I have saved a few sleeves! Might ask your therapist. Also my son is 5yo, this may not be safe for little ones (around the neck) H Workman

My son chews things when he eats a " bad food " , but there are other reasons for this behavior also. Here is my information on that. http://home.pacbell.net/cscomp/handlick.htm Dana
