Hello all.. We just got back from a visit with Dr. Herzenberg and he took off

's cast and his feet look soooo good. He was in them due to a relapse. He

said that although they look great, he just wants us to know that they could

always relapse up until the age of 5. I am so scared and nervous about all of

this happening again. It was a nightmare having a 2 year old in casts for a

month. Anyway, my question is this- he told us about some excercises that can be

done with 3 times a day to help strenthen his feet. I was wondering if any

of you take your kids in for physical therapy and if it helps. I would love all

of the help I can get right now to make sure that his perfect little feet stay

perfect! Another question I have is this- Have any of your kids been in the

straight last shoes? He thinks that this will also be helpful. I made an appt.

to get fitted for them, but I was wondering, what are the shoes like? Will

he be comfortable in them? Thanks.

If has been/is wearing the standard FAB/DBB, he's already been wearing

straight last shoes for a while now. Straight last shoes are shoes that are

built so that there is no difference between the left shoe and right (aside from

which side of the shoe the buckle is on). They are a very " neutral " shoe, meant

to hold the foot aligned very straight. The shoes our kids wear with the FAB

are open-toed so that they can be worn for longer. Markell also makes a line of

closed toe staight last shoes--I'm assuming these are what will be

getting. They look like your typical " first walker " shoe. You can check them

out at the Markell site:

As for physical therapy... There are quite a few parents here who have used it,

hopefully they'll chime in.

My son receives PT through First steps(IN early intervention

program)-however, his is more oriented to make sure david stays up

to date developmentally. However, we do stretches each night to keep

his achilles stretched and aid in his dorsiflexion. I also know that

Dr Dobbs prescribes stretches to his patient. Glad to hear that

's foot looks so nice!

take care,
