Guest guest
It is very normal, but frusterating for parents, cuz it's hard to know what to do to help them! For Eli, it lasted hardcore about 3 days, and then on and off for 10 days, but aftr that he was totally fine (he never fights the shoes anymore). Make sure your son doens't have any blisters or red spots. If so, try moleskin - it worked great for us. Most likely, he's just not used to them and he is not sure how to 'move' with the bar on. He'll learn and get used to it soon....just hang in there!! > > My 6 week old son just got his shoes a few days ago and has since been > very fussy. Guest guest
A few days is 'the norm' for adjustment. There are a couple of things that you can do to help baby to adjust...help to teach him to kick his legs in unison, this is what really frustrated my daughter in the beginning, she has unilateral and thus had only one cast so her other leg was always free so when she went into the brace she had a hard time realising that she needed to move her legs together to kick. Just take a hold of the shoes with each hand and bend his legs then straighten - repeat and when he starts doing it on his own make a big deal out of it. Also, putting a rolled up blanket under his knees when he sleeps may help, it did with Grace. Have you checked out the Tips & Tricks doc from frogabog (Kori) in the files section? Lots of great advise there too, it was like my bible when Grace first started wearing the FAB lol. I also wanted to mention that it is important that his brace is set up right. If the shoes are too close together it can cause him to be uncomfy in the brace. The shoes should be shoulder width apart measured from approx the inside of each heel (the outside of his shoulders should be able to fit inside the inside edges of the heels of the shoe), roughly, some measure bolt to bolt (with the shoulders fitting inside where the bolts are on the shoes) but Grace has always been much more comfy measuring heel to heel. Do you mind me asking who his treating physician was? Have you posted before? If not welcome What is your little guy's name? And how did his casting go? & Grace 23mos unilateral right club foot FAB 12-14 hrs Vancouver BC Canada > > My 6 week old son just got his shoes a few days ago and has since been > very fussy.
