gallbladder (get it OUT)

To those interested in the question of to keep or not to keep the

gallbladder.

Well, it is considered an extinct in functioning organ. AND, if you ever

go through a gallbladder attack you will really hurt. I had attacks for

over a year. I thought my back was slipping a disk. I would get this pain

that would be like a knife stuck in my mid back spinal area and it would

twist and twist around and then there was a band of pain and constriction

that would wrap around my right side. Since, I kept telling the doctor it

was my back, we just kept upping the meds. I would wake in the middle of

the night in this excruciating pain and take 2-3 Tylenol 3's to just get

enough relief to breathe. Finally, I started having severe nausea and

dropped 20 lbs suddenly and we got things checked out and I had surgery in

a few days. I have these beautifully matched stones the doc gave me for

my desire and have been sooooo happy since.

So, if I was given a choice to have it out. OUT it would go.

Just for info also. I had my appendix out when I had a total hysterectomy

in 1988. I had severe cramping and would pass out and well lets just say

it was no fun. When I had surgery they figured I had 6-7 bad appendix

attacks throughout my life as there were lesions from the appendix to the

intestines around it. They had gone undiagnosed, even though I had had

severe intestinal boughts. They believed that my appendix was the true

cause for pain during menstrual cramping as it would set off the whole

belly and the pain was so severe. So, IMHO get rid of both of these

extinct organs.

i

PS They also believe I have a very high tolerance for pain. Well, now I

am not so sure as the joint pain is really bothering me. Can't wait to see

if losing weight with the DS will help that!

i,

I have pretty bad joint pain, and ended up getting a total knee

replacement in August. I did find something that helped tremendously

but I do get nervous recommending it due to the fact that there seem

to be all sorts of controversy now with NSAID's. Attorneys are

advertising all over the TV down here in San Francisco for anyone

taking Celebrex or Vioxx. Neither of these worked for me too well,

but a third new drug that has just come out, called Mobic, worked

great! Since its brand new and jumpin on the coattails for Celebrex

and Vioxx, its only a fraction of the cost, but then again, its still

an NSAID. Everytime I get a good acting prescription, such as my

Lotronex for my IBS, and Baycol for my cholesterol they take it off

the market! Laughing. I stopped taking Mobic, should it should stay

on the market for awhile! Just might want to take a look at some

samples and see if it helps!

Hugs,

Theresa

Oh, and if the gallbladder serves no purpose, why is it that so many

of us suffer huge diarrhea problems when it is removed?

Medically ignorant here!

Unlike the appendix, the gallbladder does serve a purpose, as long as

it's working. :) The $0.02 description is that it stores bile until

it is needed for the digestion of fats. Given that fact, I asked my

doc if I needed to follow any special dietary rules after I had it

removed and he said " No, but try to avoid high fat foods. " Since the

gallbladder aids in digestion of fats, it would be no wonder that one

should avoid high-fat foods after it's removal. However, like many

other things, I suspect the ability to adjust to it's removal varies

from person to person. I haven't had a problem at all since I had it

removed. In fact, they served me a croissant IN THE HOSPITAL the day

after my surgery. LOL!

Your gallbladder is a repository for unused bile. Your liver produces bile

independent of the gallbladder and dumps it into your digestive tract even

if your gallbladder has been dumped in the garbage disposal by your friendly

local pathologist.

Listen, to a Mexican, fat is the 6th food group. Whenever i would eat

anything in high fat, I would be running to the loo within 20 minutes

of the first bite. Thats why I would have preferred to keep my

gallbladder. However, after having those horibble attacks, I am glad

its gone, because I have never felt so much pain in my life...well,

until that kidney stone thing! laughing

So it's still 6 of one, half dozen of the other in my opinion!
