Guest guest
I will try and work on getting an Emergency Release pamphlet created. EVERYONE - I know I post this every couple of months, but it is critical for every RSS or underweight SGA child's parent to know, and understand. If our children can not EAT for more than 4 hours, they have to have an IV with glucose D10 UNTIL They can eat normally for several hours without a drop in blood sugar or continued vomiting. This does NOT mean until rehydration occurs. It means until the child can eat carbohydrates, hold them down, and allow the body to replenish the body's glycogen storage. The MAGIC website has Dr. Harbison's explanation of why this is critical on their website under the Member's Only section. Please make sure to read this carefully. I will try and get printed and approved the ER treatment pamphlet, so that everyone can carry one with them. But for now, carry the RSS or the SGA pamphlet with you at all times (which does state that the child must have an IV if they can not eat). You can also print out the Dr. H document on why hypoglycemia is such a risk with these kids, from the MAGIC website. Even if you can't understand this well enough to explain it to the doctors, hand them the documents. I hope this helps in the meanwhile. > I had to take Tori to the ER today.
