Guest guest
Hi Penny, I have homeschooled my four children for the past seven years. Your son's interest/love of computer sounds like my ten year old daughter! <vbg> Nothing sinks until we find the appropriate computer game. It's what has made her extremely high functioning. Anyhow, I would give Hooked on Phonics a try. I know that it has a CD-ROM now. When I got it about a decade ago for my eldest daughter it didn't have a CD. You have to play to his strength now and his strength is the computer. Hooked on Phonics works. My daughter decodes very well (comprehension is another issue!) and speaks clearly. Hooked on Phonics also comes with books so you can use the books first and then use the computer portion of the lesson as a " reward " . I have used Hooked on Phonics with my other children with good results. All of them have different learning styles and it still worked. I think that having the CD in addition to the books will definitely be an advantage and will help him with the " can't do " attitude that he has at this time. My ten year old daughter gets frustrated at times as well and develops that " can't do " attitude. Our goal is to make certain that they don't wallow in that attitude in perpetuity. I think he will feel a sense of accomplishment with the program. Give it a try. Feel free to email me privately at any time. Happy Thanksgiving to you! , land
