Guest guest
My daughter has the same facial issues. She sees a Medical Manipulation doctor to move the plates in her head and sees a Physical Therapist twice a week. Prior to this she also had a blocked tear duct. The eye symmetry, blocked tear duct and cheek roundness has all improved. We are currently waiting for our 1st appointment for the band. It does improve. Facial deformities due to torticollis Hi,My daughter has torticollis- she has a smaller eye and fuller cheek due to this. Is this reversible? Does PT correct this problem, or just prevent it from getting worse?
Guest guest
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but that is due to plagio not tort. A helmet should correct that problem. PT will correct the tightening of the neck (tort) but not the plagio. Have you looked into a helmet (DOC Band, STAR Band, Hanger Band, etc.)? Guest guest
The torticollis can pull the muscles in the face and therefore may cause facial deformities. That is why most band providers will recommend both banding to treat the plagio and PT to treat the torticollis; the treatments go hand in hand and compliment each other. My son was in a band and it corrected the plagio but it wasn't until the torticollis was corrected that we saw improvement in his face. Guest guest
Hi, This makes sense for our experience with our older son. We noticed the neck and eye right away, but the head flattening came afterwards. Unfortunately, our pediatrician blew off my husband's concerns and my son did not receive any treatment until we started alternative treatments this year. My son still has very mild plagio and a smaller left eye, and there is some concern about his neck muscles, if he is left untreated. Recently, I found some pictures that showed a good view of his head and I think his plagio may have gotten to mild range around 6 months. So, for those of you asking about natural rounding, I think there may have been some from age 6 months through toddlerhood, but not enough to justify not getting a helmet if your baby qualifies. -Kathy, mom to 2 years and 5.5 years Molly Foley wrote: The torticollis can pull the muscles in the face and therefore may cause facial deformities. Guest guest
My son had eyes that didn't match and one chin/cheek was shaped different then the other. He has been in physical therapy for 7 months and banded in a Doc Band. He graduated from the band last Wednesday. We saw MAJOR improvement in every aspect of his face and it is almost perfect. He is 9 months old. From: elpullinger <elpullinger@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Mon, June 14, 2010 8:52:40 PMSubject: Facial deformities due to torticollis Hi, My daughter has torticollis- she has a smaller eye and fuller cheek due to this. Guest guest
How old is your daughter? Also my son has both tort and plagio and scoliosis curvature. he is 13 months and three weeks now. We had 14 times PT last three week. when we look at the back it looks better. when we started physiotherapy had said there are some nodules on muscle and it is short, now says there is no problem any more. i am anxious that it will be the same. we will have therapy for scoliosis curvature next week. does your vertebra ok? Our problems look a like positional. 2010/6/15 <kittie96@...> My daughter has plagio and tort. She had the same problem, amongst others PT totally improved her eye and cheek. I don't even notice it anymore. We have been in therapy for about 4 months now. We noticed the improvement rather quickly. Tomorrow she gets her band to help with the rest Kara
Guest guest
Do you mean that the scolios was caused by how the baby was placed? Or prior to birth?
