Guest guest
Hey , It is my understanding that first our kids spill ketones, and then their BS drops if nothing is done to help them. If this were , I would keep the IV in and running until he stopped spilling ketones, and was eating at least moderately for him. Hope this helps! Guest guest
, I am sorry to hear that Jonah is in the hospital. I hope he is feeling better and can get home soon. You should probably make sure he can eat some and hold it down before you take the IV out. He needs to eat enough so that his sugar stays up on its own. I really hope you have a short hospital stay. Take care, Jodi R. > Hi everyone, > I need some advice. Jonah woke up sick today with a fever and a bit of a cold. He threw up once today, once on Saturday and once on Sunday. I don't think it is a stomach bug because he ate well yesterday after throwing up. Today he just was not feeling good and did not want to eat, so he has been admitted to the hospital on D10 since he was spilling a lot of ketones. Since this seems different from a stomach bug, what would you suggest in terms of how long we should keep in on the IV? When do you think we could take him off and try straight foods? > Am I correct in saying that first the blood sugar drops and then you start to spill ketones? Dr. H. has told us just to check ketones, she never mentioned checking his blood sugar. Should we be doing that to? When does the hypoglycemia set in, before the spilling of the ketones or after? Hope this makes sense. > I have to get back to the hospital, but we will be checking our e- mails. Guest guest
Jodi and , Thanks for the e-mail, it looks like strep, but he is still on the IV and is now taking antibiotics. He ate today, so we are keeping our fingers crossed. By the way, before getting sick on Sunday, he danced on stage at his first recital. It was a proud moment. Thanks again, , Gene and Jonah Re: Jonah is sick > , > I am sorry to hear that Jonah is in the hospital. I hope he is > feeling better and can get home soon. Guest guest
, I am glad that you all know what it is. Hopefully the antibiotic will kick in and he can keep eating so you all can get home soon. I can imagine how proud you felt as you saw him dancing around. Did you cry? ) I would have been crying my eyes out. Take care and keep us posted as to when he gets out, Jodi R. > > > Hi everyone, > > > I need some advice. Jonah woke up sick today with a fever and a > > bit of a cold.
