Hi Tracey,

I'm sorry you and your little guy are having this problem!!!! It has to be

frustrating for all of you! You asked about the moleskin and I just

thought I'd tell you how we have found it to be useful. We actually prefer

the

molefoam (it's moleskin with a little more padding). When our daughter has

had red marks from her shoes we have 2nd skin burn blisters that we put

right on her skin, then we put on her socks and then we put either molefoam

or

moleskin on top of the sock where the area of irritation is to add a little

extra buffer. Just thought I would share as this has worked very well for

us!

Just cut a hole in the heel and stop the shoes from making the skin

worse. It will heal so much faster this way and it doesn't harm the

shoe integrity at all.

be done with this!! how frustrating!

Unfortunately I cannot cut a hole, as Zach's shoes are the type that

come with the pre-fab or pre-cut hole in the heel already. The

affected skin is higher up in the Markell boot. Putting another hole

in the boot would not work, I'm afraid. Any other ideas?

I think you are on the right track with the Lansinoh. Maybe a little

less sparingly. You don't want to slather it all over his feet but

really working it into the skin, esp. after a bath will help soften

the skin and resolve the itchiness.

Do you think there is something besides the shoes irritating the skin on

his ankles? Is he rubbing his feet for a distraction or because they

itch? Is this caused by friction in the shoe?

I think the Lanisoh will do more good than harm. Using a bit more will

not hurt. Or you could try a thick moisturizing ointment like Aquaphor.

The bandaid thing. Well, bandaids can cause problems when they wrinkle.

However, I have used bandaids and have had no problems. You have to be

very careful that the bandaid stays smooth as you put the socks and

shoes on. A wrinkle in the bandaid can be as bad as a wrinkle in the

sock for causing a pressure spot. In your case, a slick bandaid might

reduce the friction on the new skin and allow the skin to heal. I have

also used the liquid bandaid. I have found that it helps reduce skin

break down and it doesn't wrinkle like a bandaid would. You might also

be familiar with the BisterBloc bandaids. These are very sticky

bandaids that are designed to stay in place for several days. The

smaller (10 packs) ones will wrap nicely around a babies heel. You

can't take them off to see how the skin is underneath every day, but

they do not wrinkle easily and they create a good healing environment.

They will fall off in three or so days.

Maybe one of these ideas will work for you.

Cricket Is At It Again

We have a 5 -- almost 6-- month old that is almost finished wearing the

boots

and bar 23/7. On Aug. 10th he gets reduced hours. Anyways, he continues

to

want to scratch at the skin on the backs of his ankles, rubbing his feet

together

like a cricket, when he is out of his Markell shoes for his one hour of

freedom.

My husband and I have resorted to taping his socks on and putting a

rolled

blanket between his feet to prevent him from ripping the new skin off

his

ankles.

We need some more troubleshooting ideas. Currently we are trying to

double

sock our little cricket while he's in the shoes to see if that will help

the open

skin heal. Do you think the double socks (tight fit Old Navy on bottom

and

thicker GAP socks on top) will help heal itchy skin? We're using Lasinoh

sparingly each evening and this seems to make our son feel better. I

read on

this board NOT to use bandaids.

We have purchased moleskin, but I'm not sure how to use this to keep the

sensitive skin away from the shoes.

The bar is the correct length. The feet are corrected. We may end up in

the P/

M's as soon as Jiminey Cricket outgrows his shoes.
