I ve been trying to walk everyday. I get lots of pain, like pins

being stuck into my thighs. Spoke to Dr again, he says that it was

caused from being on the OR table for a long time.

I have no problems since DS surgery except for legs.

S: I don't know, but I sometimes do have my arms/hands fall asleep ..

it only happens at night and when I mentioned it to my dr before he said it

was because of the weight.. well, that can't be so now!

Has anyone else experienced this? It happened last night.. I think it is

usually my right side. My arm but mainly my hand falls totally asleep and I

awaken with pins and needles feeling... I try to move it (it's difficult at

first) but then the blood flow gets restored eventually...

Like I said, I did experience this before surgery (in the arms usually but

also the legs sometimes)... I thought maybe it was potassium (I think?) so

I'm trying to have a banana a day (I had small right lower leg spasms last

night -- not as bad as a charley horse but noticeable)...

I will bring this subject up when I see my PCP and also the surgeon. In my

case, my surgery was almost 10 months ago and I was only on the table for

three hours, so I don't think that's the cause...

all the best,

If its just your thumb and the first two fingers it

might be carpal tunnel. I have it and my hands are

always going to sleep at night. I have a habit of

sleeping with my arms above my head under my pillow.

That doesnt help either.

*************************************************

I have carpal in both hands. One quick test is to put

your hands in front, like you're praying... both hands

pressed together. Don't have them pressing on your

body but slightly away. If the thumb and first 2

fingers go numb or tingle, it may be carpal.

Good luck,

dee

I missed this before..

I had the exact same symptoms, and it was a pinched cervical nerve in

my back that caused it! I went to an acupuncturist, and it stopped

completely.. after 8 years, I only have problems when I'm extremely

tense in my neck & shoulders.

The pain in the hands at night is from nerve inpingement in the

neck. I get it all the time. My chiropractor heals me!! Matter of

fact I have been a regular visitor to the chiropractor since about 3

weeks post op. It seems I have something different going out of

place and causing so much pain--

1st--I started with pain from my incsion around my waist to my

spine. I thought I pulled the incision by coughing--turns out the

coughing twisted a rib out--I suffered with such pain for 2 weeks,

one adjustment I was cured. Then I was doing laundry and twisted my

hip out, he fixed that. Now it is the other hip, I have the pins and

needles coming out the hip around to the groin--have to go back.

I asked why everything keeps going out--he said the weight loss

causes the center of gravity to shift--and the spine has to make

corrections--sooooo.......I think the man and I will be seeing alot

of each other in the coming months!!

Pammi,

I love my Chiropractor to pieces. He had kept me walking for years.

As far as the weight loss goes, it really does knock everything out

of alignement. When I was on my liquid fast, I was in a bowling

league. One of the " pros " who was a friend of mine, told me my

bowling was going to hell, because my arm kept swinging around a hip

that wasnt' there! I went from size 26 to size 10, but didn't change

any of my " automatic " body movements like going around a rather large

hip with a bowling ball. It cracked him up to watch me, and it took

him about a month working with me to stop that action. Oh, and he got

my average up about 20 pins. If I hadn't trashed my knee, I would

have been bowling with a 180 average!

Anyway, if some folks have never had the opportunity to see a

chriopractor, make sure you get references from folks you trust, then

put yourselves in their hands. Its wondrous how much they can make

you feel better. My chiropractor would get rid of my migraines all

the time!

Hugs,

Theresa

who has not braved the scale today!
