Guest guest
Someone mentioned to me years ago that if I started giving enzymes his body would come to rely on them & he would not be able to digest the food without them anymore. This person was not a nutritionist or anything so I just wanted to bounce it off the list to see if it was an accurate statement of not. Thanks, Michele (, ASD, 7yrs, Logan, 3.5yrs)
Guest guest
This doesn't happen. Dr. Houston has commented on it A LOT, so apparently it is a thought that comes up. Digestive enzymes production is triggered by food+gut reactions, pancreatic reactions, food+mouth reactions and NOT by the presence of any other enzymes in the gut. If anything, supplementing with oral enzymes helps to heal the gut and provide more nutrients to the body increasing its efficiency. So after sometime on oral enzymes, your body may be functioning better and you won't need to supplement with enzymes any more. My older son used to reaction to even a tad of casein. At about the 5th month on Petizyde regularly, he has a casein infraction about once a week with no noticeable effect (courtesy of school parties and treats, not mine). So, we can have the same level of health with a lower dose. .
Guest guest
Thanks , for clearing up that confusion for me. The person who made the comment to me years ago kept me from trying enzymes. But she didn't have any real knowledge of autism, or gut problems. Her husband was a chiropractor & they did their own reading etc. But I was never quite sure of her statement about enzymes. Thanks again! Michele
