Guest guest
Hi , I was a little confused by your posting. You said the nurse can do catheterization, because it is not a sterile procedure? Changing a g- tube is not a sterile procedure either. I don't see any reason why the nurse at the school couldn't put a new g-tube in if it came out. Even if the nurse couldn't or wouldn't do it, there is certainly no reason your husband would have to take Jordan home to do it. You could argue that in the time it takes for your husband to come to the school & take Jordan home that the stoma could begin to close. I am not sure how your school system works, but if there is a department that manages medical needs for all schools, I would contact them & complain. It might also help for your doctor to fill out something stating in an emergency situation, ta new tube needs to be inserted within a specified amount of time? Kim C. HI Everyone, Jordan enjoyed his first 2 days at school. He was a little teary eyed when he headed to the classroom without mom and dad. I really wanted to go with him but said let him go with his class, he'll be OK. And OK he was. He said I love my new school. I hope his enthusiasm continues. One Problem - the nurse at the school says that theyare not allowed to put his G-tube in if it falls out and that if my husband came to the school to do it(he's 10 minutes away) he would have to take him home to do it and then bring him back. I am so upset with this policy. Yet the nurse can do catherization on the students because the MD order does not state it's a sterile procedure. Now when Jordan was at his other school the nurse was able to do it and did about 3 times while he was there for 2 years. Granted the school wasn't a public school but she still had the authority to do it. The nurse at the public school says they are not covered to do it. Now what? Just pray each day and hope the G-tube doesn't come out. I may have to wrap his belly with a bandage or something. Anyone else have this problem? mom to Jordan 4 1/2 yrs RSS GH, G-tube, Tums, Vit D and 10 weeks
Guest guest
Dear , Sigh, Tim goes to a private school that won't even do the tube feeds. But they are great in other ways, so we've stayed. I've come to his school and fed him in an adult 1-stall bathroom. Thankfully, he doesn't need daytime feeds as much now. But I often feed him in the back seat of the car when we're out, and I'd think it would be pretty easy to replace a tube there, too - just get him to lie flat on the seat. It helps that our windows are tinted - I think you can get some kind of film for that if not. We like to have baby wipes with alcohol poured in the to disinfect the area first.
