Guest guest
Yes, usually. It's the closeness of fit and frequency of adjustment. DOC Band is optimized for the near-term, when the skull is likely to be growing fast and can most easily be shaped, and is wielded only by specialized technicians in treatment centers in heavily populated areas. STARbands are optimized for the long haul and monthly adjustments, with thick foam, and are available to independent orthotists (who make leg braces and other stuff) in sparsely-populated areas. There are advantages of both, independent of travel issues. A city dweller might still opt for STARband if their baby is young and doesn't have a lot of asymmetry, to capitalize on the lower cost and high durability. Even when priced equally, DOC Band more frequently requires repeated treatment (nearly 20%). Whereas, an older baby might be repeatedly flown across continents for a DOC Band, to obtain the maximal treatment in minimal time. The success of treatment with these " active " helmets is highly dependent on professional skills, and Cranial Tech has a superior reputation overall, though mishaps are also documented here. It's hit-and-miss with the local O & Ps offering STARband, though strong recommendations are also available here, and high-volume treatment centers also exist. Cranial Tech's relatively instantaneous imaging technology is uniformly applied, while not all orthotists offering STARband go in for the STARscanner. The nice thing about the latter, though, is it is applied throughout treatment, which reduces parental stress immensely. -- Thad Launderville town, VT Clara age 3, STARband '10 On Apr 8, 2011, at 8:26 AM, michellegentile25 wrote: > Does anyone know if one works quicker than the other? we went for > both consults and they told us that my baby would need a doc band > for 8-12 weeks (and probably not a second one). we were told he > would need the starband for 4-5 months. we went for both consults > on the same day. was anyone else told something similar? does > anyone know why it's so conflicting? > > thanks. i'm new the group, so your help is much appreciated! > > > > ------------------------------------ > > For more plagio info
