Guest guest
We had our appointment today with Jack's Orthopedic Specialist. is going to have to have surgery after all. He was able to avoid the tenonomy for a while, but Dr. Davey said that more than likely it was his wishful thinking. Since has had SUCH a terrible time in the brace, and is getting blisters, he said he thinks that the tendon is just not loose enough and if we go ahead and cut it, he'll do far better with the brace, and in the long run. So we got casted again today, we'll go back next week and they'll do the surgery right then, and then he'll be casted for 3 weeks to let the tendon heal. BUT, I've been thinking he should have had this done for a while now, so while I'm so worried about him, I do think this is a step in the right direction. Dr. Davey also said that with this, and his feet in a good placement, the brace shouldn't be AS bad. He said he doesn't even like the brace, but there's just nothing else that works. He said consistancy is the key and even one night out of it at first can damage the progress. He was very nice about it all though, he thinks that while we DID mess up by not having him in the brace all the time, that it wouldn't have mattered. He said that if the tendon is too tight, no amount of time in the brace will correct it, just the surgery and then continued use of the brace. Well, Jack is sleeping at the moment. He's having more issues with this casting that he's had with previous ones, not sure why. But he's doing far better than he does in his brace! (I responded in one post, but as I said in that one, this board confuses me. Never been a yahoo fan myself. So, if any OKC mamas, or anyone in general wants to email me, feel free! tiffany.ortiz@... ) Thanks! Tiff and Jack
Guest guest
I am short on time, but I wanted to say that I concur with , Jack's shoes are way too big. I can tell his heel isn't seated in them and his slipping (which causes the blisters) is likely more due to the shoe not being small enough for him. Personally, I would demand appropriately sized shoes and then consider the tenotomy after you try those. Assuming his feet are corrected. You will also probably want to cut a hole to relieve the pressure on his sores and let them heal, in his smaller shoes though. Can you show us any pictures of his feet without the brace please? sorry so short here, he is very cute! I'll check back later, gotta run now. Guest guest
Tiff, you're right, the tendon should have been snipped prior to any bracing. There are various methods of cutting the tendon - some not so good. Do you know exactly what the doctor is going to do? IT could really make a difference based on which method he uses. ee Mother of 3 Clubfooted Sons: - Bilateral Club Feet April 1998 Everett - Bilateral Club Feet September 2003 Garrison - Bilateral Club Feet March 2006 Visit us on the Web! www.WildlifeRevivalTaxidermy.com Update on Us, Going to have the tenonomy We had our appointment today with Jack's Orthopedic Specialist. is going to have to have surgery after all.
