Guest guest
Dear Wits End....hang in there honey it does get better! Good for you finding Kori's tip sheet and putting it to good use. Those shoes just almost cannot be " too " tight. I have very little experience with the Markell style (white boots on bar), but others here can certainly chime in regarding those specifically. Just remember the FAB is the single most important ingredient to her correction process so stick to it - with out it her feet will relapse. ee Mother of 3 Clubfooted Sons: - Bilateral Club Feet April 1998 Everett - Bilateral Club Feet September 2003 Garrison - Bilateral Club Feet March 2006 Visit us on the Web! www.WildlifeRevivalTaxidermy.com New parents FAB slipping Hi there, I am a mother of a 10 week old girl with bilateral clubfeet. She has completed the serial casting part and had the minor surgery (heel cord). The casts are off and we are now in the FAB stage. My husband and I have been struggling with the left shoe slipping. We went to the orthotist once already for an adjustment, only to be told it was the leather being stiff. Thank God for this group and Kori's helpful hints. I went through each step and her shoes have stayed on without slipping off:) The only problem, now is, when a took her shoes off to check them, the top of her feet are real red and have a slight indent from the strap. Is this normal? I know that the shoes are supposed to be tight but how tight is too tight? I am at my wits end with these shoes. I would be grateful for any and all suggestions. Thank you so much. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
First of all, welcome to the group! We're glad you found us--and that you have solved the issue of the slipping FAB already. Do the redness and indentation go away during your daughter's time out of her FAB? Remember that you've got her wearing some tight, constricting shoes--some redness is to be expected. If you've got the heel all the way back and all the way down, you really can't make the shoes too tight. However, if the mark starts to turn purple or black (a pressure sore), that's not a good thing. Some parents have removed the tongue entirely to help relieve some of that pressure. Many children wind up with a semi-permanent red mark across the top of their feet. It doesn't seem to cause any pain and it will go away. Does your daughter seem to be pretty happy in the FAB all-in-all? It will get easier--promise! Please let us know if there are any questions we can help you with. Guest guest
I know this is a hard stage. We have all " been there " , although some babies seem to adjust quickly. My had a bad pressure sore after les than 24 hours in the Markell shoes and we switched to the brace and have not looked back. It is easier for parents to put on and more comfortable for babies. I found out about it from this group, introduced our ortho to it and now he uses it exclusively for all his clubfoot patients. Hang in there and maybe consider the brace.
