Congratulations ! It is nice to hear of someone free from

complications. And to see that you have had yours done two years ago. Have

you had any problems with deficiencies?

Thanks for answering my pesty questions! I am sure that everyone is busy

during this holiday season. Thanks, Ann

, Congratulations on your great recovery and your weight loss since

then. Thank you so much for your reply. That's three of you so far, and I

am feeling better about everything. Thank you for sharing your experience, I

was beginning to freak out! Ann

Ann, Dr. Rabkin ordered very extensive blood testing at 6, 12, and 18

months post-op. So far, everything has been great! At the 24 months

point, I asked Delphine and she said that since I was feeling good and

staying diligent with my vitamins, I could wait another 6 months to get

my next set of labs.

I've had a complication free recovery also. I had an open DS in April and

the worst I've experienced was a numb tush (probably caused by time on the

operating table or an inflamed nerve), this resulted in a couple bathroom

accidents the first 2 weeks. It was difficult to tell when I needed to get

to a bathroom or just had gas.

I had almost no pain and didn't need any painkiller after I got out of the

hospital. In fact 10 days after the operation, I did the driving home, 1

1/2 hours, since my DH wasn't feeling good and I wanted to get home.

I really have been complication free. I stuck to the soft foods for over a

month and had no problems increasing my food intake slowly but surely. The

only problem is a hernia which I have no pain from but it does limit me with

stomach crunches. But truly I am so happy with this surgery and happy to eat

what ever I want. Ellen(Pam

Ann:

You can count me in on the complication free list. I had surgery 10

months ago. All went well...I haven't become lactose intolerant, I

haven't developed a hernia, I haven't had any infections, no leaks,

havent' vomited (not even once)...well you get the Idea, no

complications. Just the standard, recovery from surgery. I tolerate

all foods, I eat well and I am no longer obese!!!! Life is good.

Complications do happen to good people who have followed all the

guidelines. When I went in for surgery I had the mindset that I

would have a complication, that the first 6 months would be an ordeal

that I would have to get through. (I do that with everything in life,

mentally prepare for the worst, than any thing less than the worst

is... OK.)

Happy Holidays

Ellen,

IF you don;t mind me asking, what causes the hernia? I have seen that

mentioned as a possible complication and was curious.

Herbie's father, Steve, here...

In my case, it was an incisional hernia. Even though I had

laporoscopic surgery, the route that the main surgical instruments

took up inside my belly weakened the muscle walls and one day when I

was coughing, out popped Herbie. Now, I had already resumed

exercising, including some relatively light weight training (not more

than 50 lb.). That, too, may have done it.
