Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I had a question about rss children and thier immune systems. Is that a common trait, does it start from birth or is it something they grow into when they start school. I've been very blessed when it comes to chloe being sick, she's rather a healthy child. Even though she doesn't get sick alot only your occasional ear infection she still wont eat unless we corner her in her highchair and sit there for hours.Still I have noticed she's much smaller than most of the kids that I have seen posted so far, thats very scary for me. She's on periactin,gh,and she doesn't even get sick and she still is smaller than most, why? She is 27.5 months,17lbs and 29 inches tall. She has been on gh since june, should I worry?I guess it's really too late for that. Thanks for listening please get back with me if you have anything to help. again god bless you Reah and Chloe:) --------------------------------- Yahoo! Guest guest
Hi Reah, In general I don't think our kids have compromised immune systems at all, it's more that when they get sick they're " extra " sick with the hypoglycemic problems (spilling ketones, low blood sugars) when they can't eat enough to keep stable. This is a different hypoglycemia than diabetes. With diabetes the sugar's can't get into the cells. With our kids they have very little fat for sugar storage so they plain old run out of sugar. The problem is that the brain only uses sugar for a fuel, it cannot substitute anything else therefore we need to keep a closer watch when they do get sick. Sorry if this is old info for you, I haven't been keeping up on the listserve 100% latley!
