Guest guest
Hi, No, they are not too old for a helmet. There have been some on this list who put helmets on their children at this age. However, at this age, the progress is much slower, and the results may not be as good. The important thing now is that you figure out how to get the helmets on them ASAP if you are going to. Also, there are alternative treatments that can help. I recommend you also join the list for older plagio babies. I started treating my son's mild/mod plagio around his first birthday and have been treating it for 15 months now, and you could almost say he no longer has plagio. I put tons of energy and resources into it though. Good luck! Kathy leinatian wrote: My 13.5 months twin boys both had flattened heads, one to the left the other to the right. I was too wrong to take my family doctor's words when he told me that repositioning will fix the babies head shapes when I went to see him as my babies 6 months old. Are there any moms who had similar experiences and had their babies head shapes fixed after? I tried to make appointment with BC Women's Hospital, but after two weeks when I called them again, they told me my babies are too old for helmets. I am super worried now. Any help would be appreciated!
Guest guest
Hi Kathy Thanks so much for the information. May I ask how you treat your baby after his first birthday? Did you fit him into a band or you just followed tips on the older plagio babies board? And how serious was his plagio? I just applied to join the group. Hope they accept soon and I cannot wait to read the postings on the group. Thanks so much for your info again! Guest guest
Hi, My son was diagnosed at 11.5 months, but still a lot of the correction we got was after 14 months. His numbers were in the mild range, but visually one of the orthos told me he was more moderate. Now his numbers are in normal range, and most people don't see anything, although I still see a little. As soon as I found out about plagio, I got him in the helmet as soon as I could. I took the first available appointment, and ordered the helmet on the spot without waiting for insurance. While waiting for the helmet, I took him to a chiro I trusted, and he recommended me to one who was qualified to do cranial work and a little CST on my son. For many months, my son went for about weekly chiro visits. (We've gone about 50 times.) I continued to nurse him and still do twice a day, since I believe that keeps the head moving. After a few months, we added osteopathy with a top notch practitioner. After several months I realized my son still preferred to turn right, and I had him evaluated by a highly recommended PT. He was diagnosed with mild/mod tort, and we've been doing intensive PT ever since. It is just starting to let up a little. We kept the helmet on him for over a year, and it continued to help up until close to his 2nd birthday. Since about his 2nd birthday, we've tried 3 NCR treatments done by Dr. Eon, and they've helped with ridging. We've cut back on the chiro and osteopathy, but we still goes for maintenance. My son will get about 3 more NCR treatments spaced a couple months apart. After the NCR and PT let up more , I'm going to take my son to a local recommended CST practitioner for maintenance. I plan to do maintenance type treatments as he grows for many years. Luckily, we live in an area where there are good practitioners and our insurance helped pay for a lot. We are also trying to treat very mild plagio with eye asymmetry caused by tort in my almost 6 year old with so far a tiny bit of success. The most successful treatment for him has been NCR.
