Guest guest
My son's doctor didn't recommend it, because they don't know for sure if it means you will not get it, and that it might only delay it (which is an awful thing to get when you are older--in the form of shingles). She said that if he had not gotten chicken pox by the time he was, say, ten or twelve thereabouts, then, I should give it to him then to try to prevent him getting it as an adult. Instead of oatmeal baths, you can use witch hazel and/or aloe vera extract in the bath water to cut the itching. Also, if your child can take it, Benadryl also helps (with itching and with sensory issues). I carried on putting on the FAB. I bathed him at night and put oats in a pair of tights, and put it in the bath and then rubbed calamine in. Really they have a really bad 3 days but all in all it is usually 7-10 day but with the worse 3 in the middle. I gave calpol when it was bad.He was just pickled and itchy. It is not nice but there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Hazel, My son got chicken pox when he was 14 months old from the chicken pox shot. He was actually in the hospital for 5 nights 6 days. Anyway we continued with the DBB and all went smoothly as far as his feet went. When they scabbed it did rub one scab off, but was very minor. Maybe it was the fact that he had lost 6 pounds and was just plan sick, that we didn't worry as much about that. It ended up healing rather fast and no traces of any marks now. Hope this helps you and good luck with all those chicken pox. Guest guest
thank you for your replies. it's now day seven of the chicken pox and all is settlein down. he's only got a 6 on his feet and they haven't errupted into big sores. unlike his face and hair which have great big scabs all over.my poor babys no longer got loverly soft skin! only had a few nights were he just would not stay asleep in our bed never mind his own. but last night he did go in his bed and slept as usual. if anyone tells you having chicken pox as young as possible is easy, there lieing, my 3 1/2 yr old and 6yr old were brill, hardly any complaints. my 9 yr old daughter was a differnt kettle of fish. enough of my wows, it must be hard for you guys with this mumps thing, i can remember having mumps and it not nice. haz of lincoln. uk.
