Guest guest
After trying several brands out including my 2 yr old's " old " seat, we ended up buying Cosco Alpha Omega Elite(I think it is called). We have it rear facing. It does take up a lot of room that way, so my daughter can no longer get out that side door of the minivan, but it was the one that fit the best with his width and the brace. Oh, our youngest is 9.5 mnths, around 22 lbs & 28 inches. We have the same seat now for our almost 3 yr old - forward facing, and really love it. Oh, I highly recommend buying one of the Prince Lionheart plastic seat protectors esp while rear facing($20), bc Isaac tore a chunk out of my mom's seat bc he hit the nut on the seat until it loosened, and then the screw was exposed. > > Hi all, > > We found out at 's 4 month appointment last week that he is too > big for his infant seat so we need to buy a convertible one right > away! Guest guest
We have been using the Eddie Bauer convertible-3 in 1 carseat since david came home from the hospital-its the equivalent to the Alpha Omega Elite minus the Eddie Bauer name tag Its been great-it does take up a lot of room in the rear seating position but we had no problems with 's dbb while using this seat. Guest guest
It's pricey, but the Britax roundabout was the only we found at our local stores that fit the brace well. Other than the price it's a great seat. Re: OT - Car seats After trying several brands out including my 2 yr old's " old " seat, we ended up buying Cosco Alpha Omega Elite(I think it is called). Guest guest
Britax, Britax, Britax! The roundabout is a good seat, but the new ones (Wizard??) actually are a bit wider and are rated to 65 pounds. Which means you may never have to buy another seat. Money wel spent IMO. Kori (who owns 5 Britax seats and would never buy any other!) Guest guest
Adding my Amen to the Britax chorus. The ease of installation, comfort, durability, etc., etc., have made us a Britax family. As Kori mentioned, you can buy one that converts from using a five point harness to using your seatbelt, so it'll be the last seat you'd need to buy. Yeah, Britax!! frogabog wrote: Britax, Britax, Britax! The roundabout is a good seat, but the new ones (Wizard??) actually are a bit wider and are rated to 65 pounds. Guest guest
WE LOVE BRITAX TOO- we just bought two marathon. Baby club online has free shipping right now and they have the marathon in closeout patterns for $219, $50 cheaper than baby's r us. and Logan (who at 8.5 months looked too big for the roundabout) Re: OT - Car seats > > > >After trying several brands out including my 2 yr old's " old " seat, we >ended up buying Cosco Alpha Omega Elite(I think it is called). > >We have it rear facing. Guest guest
wow, that's a great price. I paid $199 for my roundabouts... like 8 YEARS ago! And for whatever it's worth... my kids have been in roundabouts till about 4yo. at 40 pounds, had to take them out. Size wise they never got too large and they're not petite kids either. Which is why the Marathon (thanks for the reminder on the name there...) at 65 pound limit is a great choice. my 5yo is only 52 pounds so in effect, he could still be in his 5 point harness instead of a booster. We DO have one of the big seats they make (made - ours is the older pre LATCH model) that is good to 80 pounds and we use that in one car and a booster with shoulder strap in the others. BUT I wish he was in a 5 point all the time! Kori At 04:25 PM 5/2/2006, you wrote: >WE LOVE BRITAX TOO- we just bought two marathon. Guest guest
We've got the whole assortment of Britax seats over here too. We just moved Hannah out of the Marathon (she's exceeded the 49 inch height limit though she's nowhere near the weight limit) and into the Parkway. I'm definitely not in love with the booster seat for her, but the Regent (22-80 lbs with 5-point harness, forward facing only) has a height limit of only 53 inches--I just couldn't justify that expense for something she'll outgrow so quickly. I consider these seats to be some of the best investments we've made. They are so easy to install and super easy to clean. As far as fitting with the FAB, the Roundabout worked well both backward facing and forward facing even with a 10 inch bar and both shoes turned out to 70 degrees (and the Marathon is even wider, so it would work just as well). Guest guest
We also have a Britax Marathon, they're not available in South Africa, but we ordered one and had it sent to my sister in Florida 2 years ago, is still in it and we'll only have to get a booster seat next year. 1 feature they have that's different to anything else here is the clip across the chest, just gives that extra support in case of sudden stops.GREAT car seat! Guest guest
I know it is supposed to be a no-no to buy a used car seat, but if anyone is looking for a cheaper route + the only way you can get the seat we have and love is to buy from E-bay, it's the Fisher-Price Safe Embrace (I think it's the # II model). It's styled similarly to the Britax Roundabout and was ranked #1 by Consumer Reports for the 2 years they were available (2000 & 2001). Fisher Price unfortunately decided to get out of the car seat business and stopped making them, but they are convertible, the one we have is rated up to 60lbs. I think, and definitely wide enough for a FAB. They used to retail for around $110 but I've seen some on E-bay going for $50 or less. Just a thought, > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > We found out at 's 4 month appointment last week that he is > > >too > > > > big for his infant seat so we need to buy a convertible one right > > > > away! Guest guest
I guess you are forgiven. But you'll have to promise to change your naughty ways if you move to a bigger town. We don't pass a lot of traffic on the way to daycare but I know some parents come from farther away than we do, and there are always school buses on the road, and windy roads too. allison > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > > > > > > > > > We found out at 's 4 month appointment last week that > he is > > > > >too > > > > > > big for his infant seat so we need to buy a convertible one > right > > > > > > away! Guest guest
interestingly enough the other day Merek and I were having an argument. He would NOT put his belt on. I put it on, he took it off. he has these issues sometimes where he gets some idea in his head and won't turn back for any reason.... So this time it meant that he thought if he didn't put his belt on he could play at the park after school. Finally, after too much time dealing with him to no avail I decided to start driving. He's back there freaking out that he's not in his belt screamin bloody freakin murder, yet he won't put it on. I'm going all of about 15 miles an hour perhaps, if that. After a couple blocks I'd HAD IT and stepped on the brakes a little hard. Not too hard... and I wasn't going fast at all. Well, you guessed it... little boy slams into the seat in front of him and hit his face. No, he wasn't hurt but he was sure taken aback that such a small breaking at such a slow speed could throw him so forcefully. Kenton was pretty freaked out too. The force I felt him hit at made ME freak out that I'd done something to hurt him... all I could think was I could have broken his neck with that little stunt of mine... So I guess one wouldn't have to be near other cars to make things bad for a kid... all you'd need is some dog to run in front of your car and have to break fast... or you could just run over the dog? food for thought.... :~} Kori At 02:01 PM 5/3/2006, you wrote: >Guilty - to a small degree. Guest guest
Just a note about the car seats . . . The saftey commission advises that you retire a car seat 6 years from the manufacture date (found on the sticker on the seat). Even if the seat has not been involved in a wreck, the time period set allows for stress cracks, etc. I have one child in a booster seat that is six years old next month and am even replacing it even though she will be in it only another 5-6 months . . . A friend of mine who works at a local hospital went to a training last month and came and inspected all of mine and told me this tidbit of information. Though there were no visible problems on any of my seats, I would rather be safe than sorry!
Guest guest
I notice on some seats there is a raised plastic date telling you when to retire the seat. I would not keep one past that date as plastic " rots " in the heat and sun becoming unsafe, and depending on other things I'd replace on sooner. s.
