Our Gal that comes from Early Head Start was here today. Lilee doesnt crawl, but

kinda leaps just a tad. She did pull herself up by herself today (barely), and

she was concerned she doesnt stand flat footed more so on her CF, that her

regular foot. She stands on her tippy toes. She had MA on her left foot. For

whatever its worth, she ALWAYS keeps her legs spread apart whenever sitting,

standing or on her tummy. kinda like she's still in the brace. If you try and

put her legs together she gets kinda upset and will spead them back out. I sitll

think that one of her legs is longer than the other. I dont think more thatn

1/2 " or so. Maybe even only 1/4 " . I dont think that that would cause this

though. I am afraid that since she has had to be out of the brace so often that

this may be a sign or relapse! She was out for 5 days about 3 weeks ago. Then

out a day here and there (about once a week, she is out today also) for sores

and swelling she gets from the middle strap in the

P/M's. Can anyone give me some advice? Her foot and leg are so chubby that

sometimes I think her dorsoflextion can be decieving? I think she has about

10degree dorso and has 60-70 abduction. Her appt with her Ortho isnt until May

30th. Just being paranoid here! :oD

Hey, Christee,

My Lily has been pulling herself up (and starting to cruise a bit on

furniture)

for just over a month now (she's 13 months). When she started this, she

kept her legs quite far apart (as she typically has done while sitting or

crawling-as you described, like she still has the brace on) & I was concerned

that would really throw her balance off. But after a few weeks of practicing,

she's learned to put her legs closer together when she stands. And when she

was first starting to stand, she definitely would bear more of the weight on

her

non-cf. That also is starting to even out as her legs gain strength.

So I've shared some of your same concerns over the past few weeks. Her foot

has such great range of motion (and she had recently had a checkup where

it was scored as a 0), that I tried not to get too worried (I really was when

she

wasn't putting her cf down flat at first when she started to stand). And

things

seemed to have improved. Just keep an eye on it & see how she does. Sounds

like she's making good progress.

HTH,

Kim
