Guest guest
I've been meaning to post pictures of what my friend did for my daughter's helmet. She doesn't wear it anymore but I still wanted to share because I found the pictures here to be SO helpful. I have a friend who is a really great artist, and I love what she did. She sponge-painted the base, and then she used a combo of stickers and painted birds and flowers overtop. Then, she used shelac over the top. (We tried modge podge first but it was peeling too much. The shelac lasted for months). One word of advice: the shelac is clear but will stain the foam yellow, so be careful to tape it off. My daughter wore the Starband. We liked it. We visited the DocBand center but it was a 2-hour drive, and truly we felt like the Starband was so similar. It wasn't as thin, but I think it did the trick. By the way, my daughter survived the earthquake in Haiti while wearing her helmet! We were visiting when it struck and I was so thankful for it during that trip. The pictures are here. http://www.rageagainsttheminivan.com/2009/11/happy-day.html
