Guest guest
Hey all! My daughter is 12 months old and started standing/cruising about a month ago. She was born with a left clubfoot but was casted at birth and put into bar shoes thereafter, and recently moved into the new markell shoes with the open heel. THe shoe is starting to slide off alot faster/easier now. She is scheduled to see Dr. VonStein at the end of the month/early next month but I am so deeply concerned right now. Her foot has regressed, I think. It doesnt always turn in but at times it does and other times she holds it normal. ANyway, she never had the heel cord cut, but at her last visit Dr. VonStein indicated that the cord was starting to tighten up and she was going to seriously consider cutting it if there wasn't any improvement. That said, here is my question/concern/seeking advice.....since she started standing...she is standing on the outer part of her left foot...meaning she is standing with it turned in slightly. Sometimes she will stand with it *almost* flat, but most of the time she stands/cruises on the outer edge. I am deeply concerned that this is going to cause other damage but I dont want to inhibit her development. Is this in some way normal? Do they ever stand completly flat footed on the foot that was clubbed? Is there something I should be doing? I am just so worried she is causing longterm damage to the muscles or something. Do you think she is okay until she sees Dr. VonStein? What would YOU do? Many thanks! This group has been a tremendous support through this whole process and I dont know what I would do without it! We are pregnant again and due in December, and we are both curious to see if this next baby will have a clubfoot as well (my husband did...and my daughter does....)..... Take care, LeighAnne
Guest guest
Definitely call Dr. VonStein's nurse. Her name is , and she has been a big help to us several times! 11/19/04 bcf Jenni Cypher wrote: I am not sure if the call center people there will understand the difference so I would definitely ask to speak to Dr. Von Stein's nurse. She will understand. There are multiple orthos in this practice and she is the only one that I am aware of that is Ponseti method. Jenni wrote: LeighAnne, Unfortunately it does sound like your daughter's foot is relapsing. The standing on the side of the foot is called supination and it is usually a sure sign of relapse and should not be ignored. The good news is that at this stage in the game it is almost certainly possible to correct this with casting. And if she needs the tenotomy and a couple casts to put her foot back to perfect then you can consider this just a minor set back. Also, how much is she wearing the brace? One way around further casting and/or the tenotomy might be to increase her hours in the brace. Keep in mind that what I am saying is my non-medical professional opinion, but I would be sure to contact Dr. VonStein right away and get in to see her sooner rather than later. If you mention 'relapse' when you call to schedule the appointment they should be able to get you in quickly. Hope this helps! > > Hey all! > My daughter is 12 months old and started standing/cruising about a month ago.
