Guest guest
several varieties of clubfoot are distinguished; as, Talipes varus, in which the foot is drawn up and bent inward; T. valgus, in which the foot is bent outward; T. equinus, in which the sole faces backward and the patient walks upon the balls of the toes; and T. calcaneus (called also talus), in which the sole faces forward and the patient walks upon the heel. > > hi all i know i haven't posted in awhile but thought id let u all know > that Phoenix' foot is doing well! Guest guest
, Did the doctor say she expected his foot to resolve by itself? I would get a second opinion - just to be on the safe side - from a Ponseti qualified doctor. You're in Iowa right? You should just make the trip to see dr. Ponseti just to be sure, or you could actually just email him pictures and he can tell you easily if he agrees with the doctor you've seen up to this point. It's common for metatarsus adductus to resolve on it's own - this is where the foot is just turned in a bit but the sole is flat to the ground like a normal foot. Any other variety of clubfoot, including talipes varus, usually requires at least some casting to correct. It would be better to have this determined for certain while Phoenix is still young and his bones and tissues are more easily corrected. I definitely would not wait 6 months to make this determination. Just drop Dr. P an email at ignacio-ponseti @ uiowa.edu and get his opinion (free of charge!). Good to hear from you! allison > > hi all i know i haven't posted in awhile but thought id let u all know > that Phoenix' foot is doing well! Guest guest
, I know that you've been in contact with Dr. Ponseti in the past before Phoenix was born and that you were planning on taking him to Iowa City to see some specialists for other issues. Are you still going there occasionally? Maybe you could make an appointment to have him seen for his clubfoot at UIHC? I would encourage you to do this ASAP rather than just take the " wait and see " approach for 6 months. If he does need some casting, it's best to do it now, not when he's older. Iowa City is definitely the best place to go for a second opinion from your location. I believe that every form of clubfoot needs casting to achieve correction. Talipes varus is a form of clubfoot. I remember initially you were told that his foot was positional and didn't need anything other than stretches. We were told my daughter's foot was " positional " too due to the initial flexibility, and it wasn't until we sought out Dr. Ponseti in Iowa when she was 4 months old that we got on the right path. Do you have pictures of Phoenix's foot that you can share with us on CFPics? Please keep us posted! & (3-16-00, lcf) http://ponseticlubfoot.freeservers.com/ > > hi all i know i haven't posted in awhile but thought id let u all know > that Phoenix' foot is doing well!
