Guest guest
Hi Jan, Several people here have had upper and lower. That is what I am in preparation for too. But I have a lot longer to go until my approximate date. Read through a lot of the past few weeks posts too. They really give you a good idea of suggestions and what to expect. And ask away. I know there are several people here whose experiences will be helpful to you. And you have plenty of time to do some checking and preparation. Good luck with this, and welcome! Hugs, Fran > > Heya!aaaaaah! am dead nervous i get my op in 10wks! soundz like ages > away but its getting scarier and closer every day!lol! i was just > woundering wether any1 has had double jaw surgey? av got loads of > questions ad like to ask!lol!maybe sum1 cud give me afew tips an tel me > wot its like after the op plz!lol am wel scared lol nways i wud b very > gratefull 4 help! > love jan x >

Guest guest
Hi Jan, I had my upper moved forward 5mm and up 5 mm and expanded. also had lover moved forward 17 mm all for sleep apnea and had a chin implant. So far the only depression I had was on day 10 (yesterday - Saturday 11/11) for some reason, I just was not in a good mood. My husband was wonderful though and reminded me that this would happen, gave me som hugs and he got me out of the house and we went to watch a soccer match (I love soccer). Felt much better after that and feel much better today. As far as numbness, everyday it gets a little better. Still have numb lower nose and both lips. I'm kind of grateful my upper lip is still mostly numb because everytime I do feel something it stings. The weight loss I think is an individual thing. I have probably lost about 8 lbs. I try to continue to drink protein shakes, juices, milk, jello and a variety of creamed soups. Don't mind the weight loss but I want to make sure my body has all the vitamins and nutrients to heal quick. Today is day 11 and the swelling is down quite a bit....almost normal. Just takes patience. Let me know if you have any other questions, also everyone in this group is quite helpful and understanding. All my best, Sandy > > > > Hi Jan, > > There are plenty of us here. > > Just ask away. > > Sandy > > (upper, lower, genio for OSA) >
Guest guest
hi all.. i was just wondering if any of you or your children may have any stories concerning the surgery for clubfoot.. not the tenotomy with the ponsetti method.. the real surgery. my son may have to have it due to the fact that his foot is so tight. Hes undergone 2 tenotomies and just got his cast off this past Friday after the second tenotomy and his foot is already too tight to turn up into a neutral position. Any you guys have on long term after effects, or complications as they grow up (i.e. pain, stiffness, problems walking) would be much appreciated. Guest guest
Hello . Have you thought about getting a second opinion? It is rare the Ponseti method doesn't correct the feet, unless however, it is done incorrectly. Each case certainly varies and some childrens feet are tighter than others. However, your doctor should not immediately give up and turn to surgery right away. There are cases where later down the road they may need an ATTT surgery. But not before trying to correct the feet with serial casting and possibly another tenotomy. Please don't resort to surgery before sending pictures to Dr. Ponseti himself. Where in the US are you located? How old is your son? It could be possible too that he has a more complex clubfoot known as atypical. Does he have a crease on the bottom of his foot? Are they short and fat (sausage looking)? These are the easiest signs to identify atypical. Also, if the feet are really tight, that can be another factor. If you let us know where you are located, we can help find a qualified Ponseti doctor near you. Guest guest
, I can't speak for surgery for my son, he has been corrected without it, but I can speak from my own experience having surgery myself to correct clubfoot. Your questions are good ones, my first question for you is when you say " the real surgery " do you mean the Posteromedial release? This surgery is very invasive and I won't sugar coat it for you, it will be difficult, and most likely followed by further surgeries. I had 4 myself. Your son will most likely come through the procedure with flying colors, you'll be amazed at how quickly he recovers, and even if he does have further surgeries, he will probably still be able to have a pretty much normal childhood and do anything other kids can do. The problems usually come about later, sometimes in the early teens, sometimes not until the late 20's or 30's. But it is almost a certainty that this procedure will cause scar tissue which leads to stiffness and pain later. Early onset arthritis is also another thing he will probably have to deal with. The skill of the surgeon is VERY important in how well his foot will do. There are still a minute percentage of clubfeet that cannot be fully corrected by the Ponseti method, but it is now less than 1% when handled by a well trained Ponseti doctor. I highly, highly, highly, recommend a second opinion for your son from one of the top Ponseti doctors. You can consult via email with Dr. Ponseti himself at ignacio-ponseti @ uiowa.edu You can send him photos of your son's feet and tell him what is going on and he will point you in the right direction for that second opinion. I know it is stressful enough thinking about the impending possibility of surgery for your child, so stressful that you may feel it would be quite difficult to " start over " again so to speak with a new doctor, but this is the beauty of being a part of this group now, because we can help you get through the tough parts and support you as you make the decisions that lie ahead of you. I hope this is helpful to you and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you find a doctor for that second opinion.
