Guest guest
Holly, You can make a simple cover out of a piece of pipe-insulating foam (available at any hardware store). Just cut a piece that is the same length as the bar between the shoes and use some athletic tape (or electrical tape) to secure it. You can cover that with some fabric (I think there is a pattern in the files section here) if you want to. Some people have also used a bike handlebar pad or carseat strap pads. There are a couple of websites that sell pads and covers specifically designed for the FAB. I don't know that covering the bar will make crawling around any easier--most people do it to save their shins, floors, walls, furniture from unwanted whacks. I'm not sure it would offer a more stable surface for standing either. In any case, the pipe-foam is not very expensive and if you find that it's just getting in the way, you can take it off. Our daughter will be 21 months old when she is wearing her cast and later wearing the brace and the bar. I was thinking as she scooted across the hardwood it might make things move smoother if she has some material over it. Any thoughts? Guest guest
For what it's worth, I tried putting a cover over the bar but found that making it smoother actually made it harder on my son, since he always pulls up to a standing position. The fabric on the hardwood made the bar slide out from under him. He doesn't have any trouble scooting around without a cover. > > Has anyone made a brace/bar cover for their child? Guest guest
Depending on what kind of brace/bar you have you may want to try www.paddymack.com. We ordered one from them, but the foam cover they sent didn't fit our type of bar (the gold DBB with 3 holes on each end). In fact they said this was the first time they've received an order for this type of bar. I was able to cut the foam to fit, but still need to make adjustments to the fabric cover. When I have the time, I'm going to email pictures to the company so they can modify their design to fit the new bars.
