Hayden's Reduced Hours

Hi all - thought I'd fill you guys in on the new reduced hours in the brace for

Hayden. It had been going well so far. I, in agreement with Kori, have been

nervous about reducing them too much, particularly since his left foot is still

somewhat problematic in my opinion. So I am probably only letting him out of

the brace for about 6 hours a day right now. Basically, whenever he is not

sleeping (sometimes he naps three times a day, so back into the s he

goes), he's out of the brace. It's funny how you wait so long for something to

come and then once it arrives, you're too nervous to go through with it!

I would have loved to wean him down slowly from the 23 hours, but he was

already so much older than the average going into the brace, and since early

walking is completely rampant in our family, I couldn't thwart him any more

than I have already. He has been very anxious to get going and the brace has

frustrated him to say the least. Plus, he is still having trouble weight

bearing and this has been making me worry (I'm trying not to, honest!)

I had him at physio today and the therapist was very impressed with his

progress thus far. She also observed that his left ankle is much weaker than

the right and tends to pronate (which our orthotist had already picked up on).

He got very irritated when she was fiddling with his foot for too long so I

think it is also somewhat tender. Over all, he has made some real leaps and I

got some good suggestions for helping him to crawl and weight bear. I will

keep working with him and hopefully get him moving forward soon!
