Guest guest
To anybody, I was wondering after reading some of your all e-mails today. Have those of you that have g-tubes or are looking at having them had tonsils removed? My daughter Eva had started GH and was on it for about a year when she was hospitalized for a appetite study. The Ped. Dr. (who is petite herself), was concerned about her inability to gain. She was 3 1/2 yrs. and 16 lbs. She would get ear and throat infections easy though. no matter the season. she said her tonsils were huge. she would chew her food long enough to get out the taste and take it out of her mouth. so off to Riley's in Indianapolis we went. spent just over a week in there. they gave us a choice of a g-tube or her tonsils out. they thought that because of their size she wasn't swallowing her foods, unless they were liquefied. she did have some texture issues and still does. they said if the tonsillectomy didn't work then they could put in the tube. but that the tonsils had to come out anyway because of the infections. well we had them out and she gained 2lbs the first week! the surgeon told us that there was no way she could have been swallowing much of anything because she barley had 1/2cm between them as a airway. also explained her difficulty breathing when she had a sore throat and her touchy gag reflex with liquids. we have managed to go w/o the g-tube for 3 years now. just wondering, Donna mom to Eva (30.2lbs, 39ins., 61/2yrs RSS) PS. i breast fed for 6 mos. and added a powdered breast milk supplement that kicked up calories and vitamins. don't remember the name. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
