Guest guest
, There's supposed to be a bend to facilitate the dorsiflexion (toes pointing upward)...about 15 degrees. There is some literature on this site: http://members.tripod.com/ponseti_links-ivil under the bracing section for orthotists about how to set up the brace, but this is specifically for the Markell FAB, not the FAB. I hope this helps! > > Hi guys, > Just wondering whether any of your doctors have put a bend in the bar > of your FAB or whether it is straight? > Thanks, > > >
Guest guest
Hi , The bar should be bent 10-15 degrees for the clubfoot side (both sides if the child is bilateral). This helps maintains dorsiflexion (point toes up, flex at ankle... basically the flex your child probably got from the tenotomy procedure) and is imperative. If the bar is straight, you'll want to get it bent. If you want to do this yourself on the gold bar, use a vise and a protractor and just bend it to 10-15 degrees just to the inside of the shoe on each clubfoot side. The Red Fillauer adjustable bar comes pre-bent and the bar on the PM FAB should also but if it isn't, you can bend it yourself. hope that helps, Kori At 04:33 PM 7/18/2006, you wrote: >Hi guys, >Just wondering whether any of your doctors have put a bend in the bar >of your FAB or whether it is straight? >Thanks, > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Kori, The bar is bent on our s, but I don't think its bent enough...I get scared that I'm going to break the black plastic middle bit when I try to bend it more. I'll give it another go tonight when I take her boots off. Guest guest
It's hard to notice the bend on the bar, but it's there, right by the screws at the shoe (not in the middle of the bar), look again before you go trying to alter it more. ee Mother of 3 Clubfooted Sons: - Bilateral Club Feet April 1998 Everett - Bilateral Club Feet September 2003 Garrison - Bilateral Club Feet March 2006 Visit us on the Web! www.WildlifeRevivalTaxidermy.com Re: Bend in the bar??
