Guest guest
gah... ok. well first look to how you'r putting them on, and the most important thing... can you pull his heel up AT ALL (i.e. does it move up?) when they're buckled and laced? If so, they are not tight enough. If not, if he's got no movement at all and you can't push him back down either (i.e. - the heel is not rising) then let's look at his feet. I'm leaning towards not being tight enough since they're blisters and not pressure sores. But if you are sure he's tight and his heel is down blisters shouldn't form. You do have a copy of the DBB Tips file right? more later, gotta get a little girl out of the shower and lie with her to sleep. haven't seen her since Sunday (last sunday!!) Guest guest
Do you have a way to share digital pictures of his feet and the brace with us? Maybe we can see something?! What kind of socks are you using? How long has he been in the current shoes? Are they the originals? Maybe he needs the standard shoes without the holes in the heels- is there something in the shoe that's rubbing on his foot? > > The subject line pretty much says it all. Guest guest
Logan had blisters, actually holes, when we first went into the Markells. The issue for him was that we were given outdated shoes and a bar that was to short. After talking to Markell and doing some research, I thought I wanted the shoes with the holes in the heels. We ordered them, however when they came we realized that the way the stitching is around the hole was irritating the healing blisters. It seemed to line up with where his soars were. Our new dr recommended we just use the plain markells. Not sure if the same would hold true for you, just a thought. I do feel for you and Zach, we were so stressed out until we overcame the blister thing. We had to use an ointment that they use on burn victims to clear up the holes on the backs of his feet. It did heal him quickly though. Good Luck!! and Logan Re: More Blisters... Now What? Do you have a way to share digital pictures of his feet and the brace with us? Maybe we can see something?! Guest guest
hi hun.. try making sure that the bar is atleast as wide as his shoulders are.. and he very well could be growing out of his shoes. If they persist in giving u problems, ask the doctors about the Mitchel brace. ITs a sandal type thats actually made for his feet. (they actually make molds of his feet to make them.) hope that helps! Rowe Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot To: nosurgery4clubfoot Subject: More Blisters... Now What? Date: Sat, 01 Jul 2006 01:35:25 -0000 The subject line pretty much says it all. We've got more big blisters. Now what do we do? Let me start by saying that Zachary (born with bcf) has been in the DBB 23/7 for two full months. He just turned 5-months-old. He receives his care at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto and his little feet are fully corrected. He had blisters in the very beginning when he started in the DBB with Markell shoes (new style with holes in heels). The hospital has a large orthotics department and extra padding was added to his boots when he was fitted for the DBB by our orthosist. Two weeks after the initial fitting, we had to return to get some of the padding removed. We also requested a longer bar for our son and that seemed to clear up the first set of blisters. Last week on holidays we noticed Zachary's heels were starting to look irritated again and the skin has been rubbing off. We have an appointment with the orthosist next Wednesday morning to have the brace examined and the padding adjusted. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be happening with Zachary's heels? Could he be outgrowing his shoes? Could the bar be too short again? My husband has become very good at putting the shoes on and it doesn't look like Zach's heels are rising, but his feet must be moving around in the shoes. We've got the buckles on the lower level and pulled very tightly. The laces are also done up as tight as possible. If anyone has any suggestions, we're all ears. Please help! P.S. We are using Lasinoh daily during the 1 hr. he's out of the brace and we are airing out those feet. We have also been extra careful to only leave the brace off 1 hr. / day. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
