Guest guest
Tabitha, here is a suggestion (and I hope I'm not off my rocker in saying this). I don't know where you live, but maybe if you can take Karter mountain climbing (I'm talking like a small hiking mountain/hill). The climb up will force the tendon to stretch. I know coming back down will not help much, but I'm sure the climb up will make up for it. I live in Arizona and we have a lot of little mountains that people hike. I've seen small children...18 months old...climbing better than some of us big people. Just a thought. Yarolim wrote: Well, just returned home from seeing Dr. Ponseti and some Dr.'s from Sweden this time. Well not much news. As I thought his right foot is getting tight again. He has never had a tenotomy. He only has about 5 dorsalf. Had 10 three months ago. This has been an ongoing problem with that foot for 20 months now. Dr. P. told me " all runners have tight heel cords " Had to laugh! He wants to see him again in 3 months and decide if something else needs to be done at that point. He did say he walks very well. When he had him pick up a toy from the ground he goes onto his tip toes on that right foot. So we will still be doing 16-18 hours in the brace. He's in bed and I just feel like crying. I don't know what They will do, Just a tenotomy? or something more. We have been doing this for so long. I know he wants him to walk more and see if that helps. He said if we do anything now it will put him down for 4 weeks and he feels that he needs this time to walk. Well I should be happy that he doesn't have any casts.. That has only ever happened at 2 appts. It's a never ending battle, Sorry I ussually do good with him, it just seems like whenever we get some where then we go backwards. Guest guest
HUGS Tabitha! I can totally relate and it is sooo draining! Emotionally and physically. I am always exhausted and at the point of tears these days after any dr. appt. I think it sounds good though that Dr. P. wants to wait and see. I'm sure they could probably do the tenotomy and that would fix the problem, but they can always do it so it doesn't hurt to wait and see. Maybe encourage him to flex that tendon some, maybe standing on the edge of some steps with just his toes, so his heel goes down and it stretches the tendon? I don't know....just an idea. Might now work with his age. Hang in there. Sending hugs your way. Marcia just got back from our appt. Well, just returned home from seeing Dr. Ponseti and some Dr.'s from Sweden this time. Guest guest
Thanks Marcia. He also has strong muscles and tendons on the inside of his foot causing the foot to turn in at a resting position. We knew this at the appt in Dec. Dr. P. thought that with walking it would work everything out. It is just his right foot that we have all the problems with. When he sits in a " W " position his little foot curves around his bottom. When sitting like in the high chair you can see the foot turn in also. Maybe I can try to get some pics. I tried to listen to what Dr. Ponseti was saying to the other Dr.'s. He kept saying he was treated elsewhere first. And that we needed to what till he was 2. I think he asked me like 6 times when he turns 2. Well, anyway, thanks Tabitha Marcia wrote: HUGS Tabitha! I can totally relate and it is sooo draining! Emotionally and physically. Guest guest
Thanks, We don't have any mountains here in Iowa, but my dad owns some land with very large rolling hills. I think I will try to get him out there and walk. It is going to be 60 degrees here on Thurs. so it should be warm enough Tabitha needing prayers wrote: Tabitha, here is a suggestion (and I hope I'm not off my rocker in saying this). Guest guest
Big hugs Tabitha!! Just try to take this one step at a time...I know easier said than done but you can be confident at least that your Karter is in the very best of hands! Perhaps you could try to do some stretching excersises with him. There is a doc. in the files section called " stretching excersizes as per Dr. Dobbs " just scroll down to near the bottom. Just a thought, couldn't hurt and may help to keep his right foot a bit more supple. Hang in there girl.....remember that this too shall pass and you WILL get through this and we are all for you Smiles, & Grace 20mos urcf FAB 13hrs > > Well, just returned home from seeing Dr. Ponseti and some Dr.'s from Sweden this time.
