Hi Inga,

Except for going to Bermuda, I have not traveled out side of the USA.

So I can't answer your questions. I would suggest you contact the

Austrailian Consulate and ask them about insurance etc. Also, call

your health insurance and ask if you are covered while out of the

country. If you are going to be using a credit card for stuff, check

with them, they often provide some insurance protection while outside

of the USA.

Sorry, I can't be of more help.

Thanks for your ideas, Ken.

Hey, it looks like we may finally meet! I've registered for the convention and

now need to get hotel and travel arrangements settled.

Hi Inga,

We probably won't meet. I will not be at the convention this year.

Sorry.

Oh, well - hope you enjoy the weekend anyway!

Thanks for the credit card idea! You may want to check out my other email on

'controlled pre-existing conditions' - the websearch I did for you idea brought

this article up!

Hi Inga

We had this travel insurance issue last year when travelling from

Australia to America(Chicago) for the convention.

A few travel insurance companies had us fill out there medical

assessment, and refused us insurance. The frustrating thing was it

seemed they didnt really understand RSS, they just said no.

The insurance company who did end up insuring us, had a policy of

covering anything that Liam had not been treated for in the past 3

months.

Liam has RSS gtube, allergy to milk(has to carry epipen) and

recurrent ear infections. He had been treated for ear infections, so

wasnt covered (and we ended up paying for Drs appt and antibiotics

in America)

Liam wasnt on growth hormone at the time but Im sure this would be

seen as any long term medication(ie insulin) and shouldnt be a

problem. Just get your Drs to write a letter explaining all his

medical needs and keep it with you while you travel.

Good luck, I know it can be frustrating. If you need the names of

any Drs in Australia let me know.

Jody(mum to Liam 4yrs and cameron)

Thanks, Jody - it's good to know that although some refuse coverage, there are

some who will do a reasonable amount of coverage.
