Guest guest
Binoj, The best thing for his feet when you're indoors is to be barefoot or just in socks. If you need to have some shoes on him, there are no 'special' requirements at all, unless he has some inherent weaknesses in his legs/ankles, which you probably would have mentioned if that would have been the case! I have liked to have soft soled shoes (like the Robeez brand) or very flexible shoes for my kids when they were just learning to walk. I think they recommend soft/flexible footwear whenever possible up until the age of 2- but this is just a recommendation for any kid (clubfoot or not), it's not required. My daughter is 6 and has never worn any special shoes in particular other than we avoided " slip on " shoes (or shoes that didn't have a way to cinch them tight) since she has a foot size discrepancy and I didn't want the shoe falling off the smaller foot. I'm glad your son is doing so well! Regards, & (3-16-00, lcf) > > Hello, > My boy 9 m, with b/l club feet 9 months old, is at present being > weaned off 23/7 the Ponseti bracing Protocol. Guest guest
No, there is no rule about shoes except that it be comfortable and well fitting as you would on any non-club footed child. Actually Dr. Ponseti advises barefoot is great for them while out of their brace, so enjoy the ten little piggies! ee Mother of 3 Clubfooted Sons: - Bilateral Club Feet April 1998 Everett - Bilateral Club Feet September 2003 Garrison - Bilateral Club Feet March 2006 Visit us on the Web! www.WildlifeRevivalTaxidermy.com Footwear during non-bracing hours .. Guest guest
Not really a rule, but my son Mason(14 months, rcf) has to still wear shoes that are higher up on the ankle--like hi-tops, to help keep is club foot in the shoe. 'regular' shoes or sandals still won't stay on his foot, and his foot is about a size smaller than his other 'normal' foot. So we have had to buy two pairs at a time. Needless to say, he's only got a couple pairs of shoes :-) But yes, barefoot is definitely the best for them now. Niki & Mason(14 months, rcf, dobbs,14-16/7) Re: Footwear during non-bracing hours .. Guest guest
So far, Mollie has never worn shoes when not in her brace. When it was cold, I put a pair of sandals on over her socks if we went anywhere to try to keep her from taking her socks off, but she quickly learned how to get those off too, so that didn't last long. Now that it's hot, she's just barefoot when not in her brace. She's not really walking yet, and after wearing the brace 16 hours, why make her wear shoes? It is kinda strange though to think, what 14 month old girl does not even own a pair of shoes? Guest guest
We keep totally barefoot now that it is summer when she is out of her brace. I like her toes to get some air. LOL I did buy some soft suede 's shoes the other day for when it gets cool or when we feel the need for shoes when going somewhere like church or something. She is nine months old and crawling and pulling up but not walking. If she were walking, I would get her some shoes to wear in public.
