Guest guest
Hi, Rosie here. My 5 year old has just recently started having overt GI symptoms. Two months ago we found that he was full of gas and stool when we had an x-ray done. He had been belching, passing gas and after several days of this he started bloating and having abdominal pain. I should back up and say that prior to this he was on Creon for a couple of weeks because he had had discharged an orange colored, oily substance a couple of times with his bm. When he started with the GI symptoms listed above we took him off the Creon. We finally seemed to have him cleaned out after several enemas, suppositories and finally, the addition of Miralax. We were trying to give flax meal (EFA) but this seemed to worsen his bloating and abdominal pain until after we got him moving with the Miralax. He did well for a couple of weeks on one tsp. of Miralax per day and 1/4tsp of EFA 3 times a day. I then tried to bump up the EFA to 1/2tsp. two times a day and wean him off the Miralax by giving it to him every other day instead of daily (he had been on it for two weeks). We were using 1/2 cap of Enzymaid Companion and tried him on Colostrum and Pro Bio Gold as well. After bumping up EFA and reducing Miralax, his normally foot long, well formed stools became smaller in diameter and in pieces. He also had a couple incidences of bloat and abdominal pain. His bm's became explosive from having so much gas. I started giving the Miralax daily again and reduced the EFA to 1/4tsp 3/day. Yesterday, he passed what appeared to be a red mass of tissue about 3/4 of an inch long and 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch in width. He continued to have about 7 more bm's over the course of the day which became yellow in color and consisted of very small amounts of shredded material and undigested food. He mostly passed large amounts of gas. What is going on here???? Dr. Kartzinel, who we are consulting with has ordered a stool culture and sensitivity as well as testing for blood, ova, parasites, fecal leukocytes and c. difficile (sp?) toxin. In the mean time we are back to square one on his supplements (including enzymes and probiotic) as we were told to hold those for now... Yikes! Our son has lots of free circulating mercury (which means, I guess, that exposure is more recent than his vaccinations that ceased 3 years ago) and we have been trying to prep for chelation but things seem to be really complicated and slow going. I guess he could have had GI problems before that were asymptomatic, but this is really starting to concern me. Sorry so long-anyone out there with similar experience or GI/autism expertise who might know what is going on????? Sorry for the book-Rosie
