Guest guest
Hi, everyone -- My esteemed surgeon, Dr. Michel Gagner made it into the January 2001 issue of Discover magazine (100 Top Science Stories of 2001). He's on page 42 (the article is called: " I See, I Cut, I Sew and discusses Dr. Gagner and his Canadian colleague Dr. Jacques Marescaux's long distance lap operation). In starts by saying 'On September 7, Jacques Marescaux and Michel Gagner became the Lindberghs of the medical world. hands on joysticks and eyes glued to video monitors, these doctors at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City used telesurgery to remove the gallbladder of a 68-year-old woman lying on an operating table in Strasbourg, France. This first transatlantic operation combined two other remarkable medical technologies: laparoscopy and robotic surgery.... " Unfortunately the accompanying pic just shows the back of his head (of course, he's intently focusing on the screen and doesn't give a hoot about the photo shoot ROFL). Check it out! You can view it online at: http://www.discover.com/jan_02/gthere.html?article=medicine.html They have a pretty cool web version of the mag there! all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/mt.
