Guest guest
Well, this is the situation when you go on COBRA, folks. Today I got a call from Dr. Hess' office that my insurance company called them and said my insurance was no longer in effect. Now, mind you, I sent in the COBRA election 2 days after I got the information from my employer. I called my insurance company and they won't approve any surgery until I get the COBRA updated. I called COBRA and they just sent out a bill that I should get next week. When I get that bill, I will have to pay for the first 2 month's insurance. Ok, my insurance is now going to cost me $324.92 a month, so I will be paying that for Nov. 16 - Dec. 15 and Dec. 16 - Jan. 15. My total income from unemployment will be $936.00 as of Jan. 7th, of which I will have to pay $649.84 for insurance. Luckily, my X is going to give me some money to help pay this, but it looks like I will have to pay for 3 months off the bat to have coverage showing thru Feb. 15th, so I can get into the hospital with no problem. I also have to call COBRA and have them do an " emergency " notification to my insurance company that I have paid this, so they will reinstate me. The insurance company has 30 days to reinstate, but *I guess* if they hear that I am paid up, they will let me go for surgery. This sucks big time. It leaves people with no money to live on if they want to have their insurance. Now I am thinking that my boss purposely laid me off as soon as I asked for time off for surgery specifically because I asked for time off. I am just so depressed at fighting all of this. I don't know how I am going to be able to afford to eat correctly after surgery with no money. I still haven't gotten an answer from my disability if they are going to pay me while I am off work. Oh yeah, I have to pay them $30 a month, too, and $66 a month for car insurance - so all money I have coming in is going for insurance. Needed to gripe.
