We drove 5 hours to CT in VA. We had a good experience- my insurance

does not cover any of the bands (they consider it strictly cosmetic)

and we didn't want to spend a few thousand dollars unless we were sure

that we'd see results. From what we were able to gather beforehand,

CT delivered consistent results; with other companies, it depended on

the technician.

I am not in your area but I have been in the group since 2002. I have heard wonderful things about both locations.

Hi there. I use Cranial Tech in VA. I like them a lot. I have never felt rushed and if I show up early for an appointment, they have accommodated me very well. I really like how they have two ways of getting what they need to build the band. First, they will take a bunch of images and if that doesn't work, they are able to make a plaster mold on site.Another plus for CT is there are numerous locations through out the US. The first day I got the band, when I went to put my son down for the night, I noticed a red spot. I kept the band off and after an hour it hadn't gone away. I was starting to stress out. Do I put the band back on even though he was still red or do I have him not use it the first night? Remembering that CT had a branch in CA, I called out there. The tech that I talked to had no problem helping me and even put in a call to the branch in VA to let them know that I was having a problem. The next morning, my tech called to see if everything was alright and if I wanted to come in for a check. It put my mind at ease to know that even thousands of miles away, the company would help their clients and keep communication open between branches.Customer service like that is hard to find nowadays. That instance reconfirmed that I had made the right choice.~Beth CT in ndale, VA or STAR Cranial in Columbia, MD??

Hi Jodi.

We live in polis and were referred to CT in ndale. My son just finished with his 2nd doc band and we have our exit appointment this Thursday. ndale was a hike for us (especially with the first band when we were going once a week!) but we were very happy with it. Honestly, I didn't even know there was an alternate option in Columbia. I would have definitely looked into it if I had known. Lucky for me I work from home and am very flexible so it wasn't an issue taking my son every other week (my husband and I would take turns).

I would meet with each facility and then make a decision on who you feel most comfortable with. Yes, ndale is far but if it's doable for you then go with your gut instinct.

Good luck!

Jodi,Parents whose children have been treated at both places have had good things to say about both providers on this board. I hope you are having consults at both places. Sometimes, that helps make the decision a little easier. I only had a consult at CT in ndale as my daughter was treated by another provider. One thing you might want to consider: It's not unusual to need more than one band at CT. You may have a better chance of only needing one StarBand--less time and money.I think 's daughter was treated at StarBand in Columbia and I think she was very pleased with them. Perhaps, she'll post details of her experience for you? That's definitely a plus that StarBand is much closer to your home. Another thing to consider: StarBand uses a scanner--more accurate than hand

measurements for adjustments and to show progress as well. Good luck!Amy From: Jodi <jodilayton06@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Fri, August 27, 2010 1:01:19 PMSubject: CT in ndale, VA or STAR Cranial in Columbia, MD??

Yes, my daughter was treated at Star Cranial in Columbia and we were very happy.

I do suggest that you go for consults in both places.

You will get better measurements with the STARscanner than the hand

measurements, but both places use a scanner to make the band. Some people feel

that the doc band is superior to the star band, but I think that they both have

their good and bad points. In general, you would get results in both of these

specific places.

I believe that the cost is only slighter less at Star cranial, but they do

provide a better discount if insurance doesn't cover it. You may spend a few

weeks longer in the band there, but one band will do it. More babies outgrow

their doc band than outgrow their starband. The key to good results with a

starband is a competent professional and you will find that there.

In the end, my daughter got very good results for her age and I was treated

quite well. The ortho was also very good with my daughter. When I was there,

there was only one ortho, but they have now hired a 2nd one. It was this 2nd one

that my coworker saw and she was happy with their results as well.

Please feel free to ask me any specific questions.

I totally agree with as we visited Star Cranial and CT. But I also had a terrible experience with CT in ndale at one of our visits. I would have gone with Star Cranial in a second but the hour drive up Rt. 95 wasn't what I wanted to do so we actually ended up going with Hanger in Reston and have had a good experience so far (my son has had his band for 11 weeks now). I'm so glad we have so many choices in the DC area to pick from.
